Was just sitting out in the garage having a smoke, and thought to myself..."self" why does my truck have a surfboard fin on top?

If I was upside down in the ocean it's too damn small to help steer any. Seems they would have put a larger one on there.

I know it's not glassed on, or in a FCS or Futures fin box. I'm stumped!

The Tacoma uses the latest in wind cutting technology. By slicing or cutting through the air coming over the roof, the air currents are directed to the sides of the truck and on to the bedside edges, effectively transferring downforce on to the areas of the truck directly above the rear wheels. This results in improved traction (much like a rear spoiler) and aerodynamics, as the air is no longer buffeting in the open bed. Better traction and fuel economy from a cleverly-engineered wind cutter. Clever things like that are why you pay more for the Toyota name.

No satellite radio available on my '17 SR, so it's kinda like a tailbone or an appendix.

Now I'm thinking I might hit the dealership up for a can of spray paint to paint my glassed on longboard fin to match my truck.

    That's a joke. Right?

So does Toyota come up short, or do mods make it better?

Take it off, unimportant and cause air drag which leads to bad mpg.

    Major design flaw by Toyota

Ah, but you see, this is a perfect case of "less is more!" The above wind cutters will result in streams of air colliding with each other and having the opposite effect. Worse yet, a gust of wind coming partially from the side will result in each wind cutter creating two streams of air that exit the cutter at different speed; as they collide, they will form small, almost invisible tornados on the roof. This will wear down the clear coat and cause long-term damage to the truck. As you can see, Toyota's engineers have avoided this problem and perfected wind cutting technology!
