Did you test drive before you bought it?

Question is, did it act up then?

You should never intentionally put yourself in a situation in which a few seconds of downtime result in an accident. What if a person had stepped out into the intersection? What if your truck had slipped on black ice or an oil spill? What if you had misjudged the speed of oncoming vehicles? There are lots of situations which can happen even when you're driving the best truck in the world. Giving yourself extra time when turning in front of 70MPH traffic is just common sense.

I get what you're saying, and I've been there. But this "scare" was 99% driver error, and 1% shitty transmission.

@here4cake, OP says himself in the 1st post that it was a "foolish and dangerous situation." Of course we should give ourselves room for error, but the fact remains that when you step on the gas pedal, you expect a vehicle to go in some way proportional to the amount of gas you are giving. If it was the brakes that had failed, I'm not sure anyone would be suggesting that the driver needs to be prepared for that possibility anytime s/he steps on the brakes.

Definitely take it in for the TSB. I went for my 10K service, told them my issue. In and out in less than an hour. Truck drives great by comparison.

    Good luck OP!

If, no problems in the first 2000 miles. Maybe you just got a bad load of gas, (water in gas) cause stumble in acceleration.

If you continually want to put yourself and your family into a can't wait position, flick the lever to "S" mode...its like stick shift and will surprise you with acceleration!
That's why the "S" mode exists.

This 100%. I pull out against a 50 MPH double lane highway to turn every day leaving work and usually floor it. The only thing that has fucked with me was traction control. I find it hard to believe the transmission is to blame

When it does it to me it's like this:
Coasting down from maybe 20 mph.
Truck thinks it should be in like 5th gear or something.
You step on the gas and it initially doesnt shift down far enough (like to 3rd gear maybe).
You keep adding gas and it finally shifts down to 1st with like 90% throttle and goes...

I get that this is frustrating as hell, but I guess I drove crappy vehicles for so long it's just stuck in my head not to put myself in a situation where a failure would cause an accident. I've had too many vehicles stall or break at the absolute worse times that I always give other drivers enough space to be able to react if my shit goes south.

I hope Toyota gets this fixed for you. If they can't, life is short so go get something you'll enjoy.
