Damn whats with the hostility, I was just reporting what they told me. So what you are saying is Nitro makes one of the top gear sets, but they are not qualified to know what processes are good or not for such gears, and if the gears happen to blow up like a grenade and they ask you did you have them cryo'd, you should lie to them , because they would have to prove that you did it, excellent way to conduct one self as a human being.

I don’t think @JoeCOVA is being hostile. All he is saying is that if Nitro wants to void warranties over cryo then they need to update their warranty policy in writing to reflect that. I have one of the top gear installers in the country performing my gear setup, and recommending cryo so I’m not going to lose sleep over it.

    Exactly.

The guy on the phone and the one pumping the press have zero reason to know what cryo is because it’s not part of their forging process. Few manufacturing places use cryo but it’s scientifically proven to have benefits in certain applications.

    Lets get back on topic.

EDIT: no hostility ever intended. We are all taco fam

Seeing the results of 5.29's on stock tires has me interested. It would be nice to be able to regear with a front locker now rather than wait until after spending a lot of money on a lift/larger tires. My only concern is with cruise control. The times that I do occasionally drive my truck to work I enjoy letting it do the work with the automatic cruise control since my commute is all open highway.

Cruise control works perfectly fine now. I only noticed an anomaly during the break-in process when the gears were new and likely the transmission needed to relearn. The CC wanted to downshift a lot like previously but after the transmission had about 1000 miles with the new gears it was perfectly fine. I use CC pretty much anytime I am on a highway or interstate and we used it heavily during our trip to Utah and Arizona.

I had a long discussions with my friends and some experts on the front locker and while it would be a nice to have I couldn't justify the cost for its limited use. Truck with a rear locker can handle almost all trails that are not dedicated to rock crawling which is why I ultimately decided against the extra expense. The front locker would end up taking me places I probably shouldn't be or it would pull me into body damage.

Thanks for the info on the cruise control. Good to know it figured itself out.

As for the front locker, I figure if it’s going to be torn apart anyways might as well throw it in there. Probably won’t be something I use all of the time, but it’ll be nice to have for those difficult obstacles, which of course will get me places I probably shouldn’t go like you said... Haha

I felt the same way. Add a winch and crawl control and if THAT doesn't get me there.... I shouldn't be trying.

Shamelessly read through this entire thread, I have an appt in December with ECGS to install 4.88’s but I’m gonna have to give them a call Monday and tell them I need to change it up to 5.29’s. Thanks for the info y’all!

Running 37’s and the reason behind wanting 4.88’s was cause I thought I may want to go down to 35’s but y’all seen to love 35’s with 5.29 so there’s that...

Oh man, with 37s I’m not sure it would be worth it at all to go 4.88

I have 4.88 on now and getting 5.29 installed this week. I should be able to give pretty good review of the differences. Im running 35" tires with AT on a Gen 3, 2017.

Also looking forward to your review! I’m getting 5.29’s for my 37’s at the end of the month... thinking of going to 35’s when these tires are done so I’m curious how it’s going to be. And please let us know about how the freeway speeds are lol is it a daily driver for you?

So I've had the gears for 2,000 Miles now.
    I am running BFG KO2 285/75/16 (32.8")
    Auto Trans
    5.29 Gears

I went wheeling once in the snow and 4 low climbing capabilities were awesome. I just crawled up very steep inclines, where previously I likely would have needed to almost touch the pedal to the floor.

On a daily basis, the truck actually feels slower and seems to require more pedal than before.
I have seen an increase in MPG during my commute to work - Roughly 1.5 MPG (My drive to work is 4 miles down a 50MPH Street with heavy traffic.
The biggest increase in MPG I have found is in traffic on the freeway.

Shifting is better, but still not right. I found that 99% of the time, the truck isn't hunting for gears, but once or twice, I have had to throw the truck into sport and set it to 6 to get into OD.
Cruise control now works 50% of the time instead of 0% of the time. What I means by works is the truck wont down shift and kill your MPG.

Engine breaking is now a thing. You can feel the truck downshift and assist with breaking, which is awesome for me, because my truck is heavy.

Overall, I am happy. It is going to make the biggest difference in 4 low, and with the daily gain in MPG, it will pay for itself in about a year.

I am curious to see what happens when I switch to 285/75/17

I thought you didn’t have a break in process if you got your gears cryo treated or rem polished

They still need a break-in if they are cryo’d but Not if they are REM polished. The polishing removes the need for that by removing burs and defects in the gears that would otherwise be removed in the breakin.

Some people still do a break-in. The break-in I mentioned there was just my trip home which was about 60 miles.
