@Shmellmopwho and others that have benders. Is there a way to figure out the length a bend will take before hand?n Just as an example say I have a tube that is 10" before and 10" after the bend section. How long of a tube do I start with?

I’m most certainly not a fabricator, but it sounds like you’re looking for something like the arc length of the center line of the bend. If that’s the case, you just need to know the bend radius and the bend angle in degrees:

arc length = (radius * bend angle * pi) / 180

So if you’re using a 10” bend radius and it’s a 90 degree bend, the math would be

arc length = (10 * 90 * 3.14) / 180 = 16”

Not sure if that helps, but there you go.

If you want to draw me a what your part looks like I can input it in bendtech on my computer and give you exactly where you need to bend, the degrees at each bend, and total length of material

 

Thank you. I dont have a part yet. Just was thinking if I ever did tube stuff that I should get some questions that I have answered.

How do you like that software? Is it fairly easy to pick up and start using? Just enter what diameter tube you have, the CLR of the die, and the degrees of the bend? I might get that.

 

Dude it’s so great. For as much tube bending as I do it was totally worth it. Takes all the math out of bending! There is the EZ beginner package that is cheap that is worth it if you don’t do a lot of bending

 

Awesome, unfortunately math and I are not friends.

 

See I’m actually pretty decent at math but I still hate it lol. Anything to help make the measurements and math easier is a friend of mine!

ever buy something, only to sit on it a while thinking "i'll get to that soon...." then when "soon" happens about a year later you can't find the thing you bought?

I did that this week with some 12-2 wire I had bought to give me a 20A outlet in the garage. I could find everything but the dang wire. luckily its only about $10 to buy more but still upsets me that I lost it.

Not just you. I do that all the time. Usually not with wire or anything but smaller stuff. Like when you know you have a 3/4" hose clamp SOMEWHERE but cant remember where it went after test fitting and buying more to do a project and then needing the original one down the road.

Gotten a lot better since I bough a cheap toolbox to use as small parts storage though. Would love a Stanley or Vidmar cabinet but not in the budget right now

Oh dude, I do it all the time. I also am the master of misplacing tools. I have a very small garage and I still manage to misplace my tools constantly. A lot of the time it gets messy from working in there and I spend 30 mins looking for something that was sitting literally right in front of my face

Hahaha I do it in the house too. My wife gets so annoyed. Was asked to brush my daughters teeth last night before bed and was trying to find her tooth paste. “Babe, where’s Cheyenne’s toothpaste?” Wife comes in and she looks at the sink counter and then looks up at me like she’s married to the biggest idiot on the planet. I look for about 30 more seconds with her standing there painfully watching me and realize where it is. “Oh, sorry. Love you”
