I have had this problem since day one of ownership on my 17 auto trans. It has been so bad that anyone who drove my truck said "what the heck is wrong with this truck?"
So bad that Toyota sent the area rep to my dealer to check out the problem and spent 2 1/2 hours doing the checks --had his special laptop hooked up to it. We did the same to 3 other new off the sale lot new trucks. He said there definitely was an issue, but there was nothing he could do about it. I was not happy but 'sort of understood' why not.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered on this website, about TSB 125-18.
I was due for my 20K service today so I told the dealer I needed this TSB done.
They did this today and I could not believe the results -- any sign of a surging IS GONE.
    Whoopie-- this TSB WORKS.
When the area rep and my dealer did the comparison checks -- 2 out of the other 3 new ones we checked did the surge as well -- one worse than mine according to the tach readings, and one almost as bad. The 3rd showed it, but very minimal and hardly noticeable.
Understand many would not notice this surge if you hop in your truck and drive off. I have a 80 foot driveway I must back out of every time I leave my home -that is unless I choose to back in.
Each time I would back (or go forward slowly) and make an adjustment in the steering, the idle would jump 200-300 rpm. The truck actually skidded on ice in my drive last year.
Sorry for the long post, but I just wanted everyone to know if you have this issue -this TSB WORKS.
Keep in mind the surge does not happen unless you are in gear (drive or reverse) -not park or neutral.

I have had my truck for 2 months now. I noticed it did this weird thing when idling and I turn the wheel. The idle jumps what seems like 500/600 RPM. It can be scary when in tight parking situations!

Thanks for posting this, I thought it was just me. I have to bring it in to the dealer soon so I will get it checked out. It can be dangerous.

I was totally amazed today after I drove it. I thought it may have just been because the truck was warmed up, but no it cooled down almost totally while I was loading firewood later on in the afternoon just as it was getting too dark to see the end of my chainsaw (no headlight version) . Started the truck up again --NO SURGING!
Total test will be in the morning tomorrow as it seemed to be worse when the truck was dead cold. I even left the truck at the dealer twice overnight in pursuit of a solution for this problem.

Especially when one has to park in tight situations mere inches from your garage with ice and snow on the drive. I told my dealer I may have to charge them for a crushed door. I am sure they thought "good luck with that idea"

I have noticed it since I got my ‘17 DCSB OR 8 months ago. Really noticeable when going through a drive thru. Every time I move the steering wheel, it surges.

It was concerning to me as we were planning a trip to Ouray, and I really didn’t want the truck surging while on a ledge on a trail. We did the trip without incident thank goodness. Just have to hammer on the brakes harder to keep it still.

Interested to see if others have the same experience.

It was really eye opening for all parties involved in the "test" at my dealers last spring when I got there and they had pulled 3 new tacomas off the sales area for the area rep to test. 3 of 4 (counting mine) exhibited the same symptom. I think it even surprised the Area rep out of the Kansas City area. He documented everything --I would like to think this test had something to do with the issuance of the TSB --but who knows.
All I know is -it has worked so far,. I have not driven it on the open road yet except to come home from the dealer (3 miles city)
And BTW -- I would have been very worried about my truck on a loose rocky mountain road before the "fix"!

Hey, does anyone know if this TSB is the same for Canada? Or is there another TSB #? Going to the dealer tomorrow to solve this issue but I only have the US TSB #, hoping they’ll accept it

I noticed this on my truck too but thought it was like older vehicles that had the pressure switch to idle up to compensate for the load from the power steering pump, interesting. Not gonna do anything about it though cause I have a stick, like the extra steering assist from it in tight spots and don't have warranty either so i'm not gonna pay for it. Good info though
