Hi. First post here at Tacoma World.

Looking at a 2018 TRD Sport DCLB 4x4 with Premium Pkg, Tech Pkg, and Exhaust Tip in Blazing Blue. MSRP is $41,595. Dealer Price is $38,147 after discounts and rebates. Add taxes, title, tags, etc. Truck is located in SE New York State, about 100 miles from me.

What say you? Fair price? I researched Cars Direct, Edmunds, KBB, & True Car and all seemed to indicate dealers not offering much in the way of discounts in my area. I was hoping for about another $1,500 off.

    Thanks,
    Eric

Decide whether you want a "fair" price or the best price you can possibly get.
If the latter, then work several dealers against each other.
It's difficult to get the best price when working with only one dealer for a specific truck.
I just bought a 2018 TRD OR DCSB and I hit the dealers with an 85% of MSRP number and worked from there.

I would expect you to be able to get close to 15% off MSRP, especially on a remaining 2018. How much haggling have you done?

15% would put you at 35,355. You're at about 8.5% off now. If I were you, I would definitely push harder, or if that's the best they'll do, find another dealership or go 2019 for the same kind of deal.

I stand corrected on my three states of a deal and I agree with your five stages. Similar to #s 4 and 5, we might add a 6th- "Dealer Add-ons"

I bought in NY as well since they were the only dealer I could find that had the combo I wanted (similar to yours but Inferno). Seems tech and premium were harder to find on non-silver/gray/black/white. I got mine for around 37500, but had the tonneau, wheel locks and all weather package. Seems this could be doable or better as the new ones are out. Honestly I would have paid more given I couldn't find it anywhere else and I'm not about to fly across the country for a similar configuration.

I'd be interested in knowing which dealer(s) you're checking in with. PM me if you don't want to post here. Good luck!

I went to my local dealer today for a test drive. Happened to be a 2018 TRD Sport DCLB with Premium Pkg and Tech Pkg. Had other options such as tonneau cover and five inch black step bars, sticker was 42k+.

    Positives:

Engine had enough power for the light to moderate acceleration. I asked of it, transmission shifted smoothly too. Ride was very nice - better than I expected, handled very well also. Steering provided nice feedback. Good visibility. Leather seats were nice and comfortable. Rear seat room for my 10 y/o behind me was good but I don’t think I’d fit back there. Salesman not pushy whatsoever, seemed fairly knowledgeable with product and easy to deal with.

    Negatives:

I am 6’1” and 265 pounds - my negative, not the truck lol. I noticed my knee bumped the steering wheel while getting in an out and the tilt was all the way up. My head did brush headliner when seat was not reclined to a comfortable position, wound up with about an inch clearance. I take it that this is due to moonroof, a necessary evil with Premium Pkg. The steps bars - the placement is awful and I found them to inhibit my access in and out of truck rather than assist me in and out. I def would not buy this truck with them. My 13 & 10 year old boys might need them as well as my wife who is 5’ 6”.

    Outcome:

I was not ready to get into a truck today, he quoted me “low $400s for a 3 year 30k lease for this particular truck.” I think I would rather buy though. Not many 2018 models left so by time I am ready, I will be looking at a 2019. I am also torn between the Sport and Off Road, each has its pros and cons. I am glad that I drove it, might want to do so another time or two. The search goes on...

I think Inferno is the best 2018 color but I was only able to find one OR DCLB and I am not certain where it is. I think I am out of luck. Funny you mention Black, Gray, Silver - dealer had plenty of those. All too bland for me. Blue was OK, Inferno is nice! Red was pretty good too.

Well, I finally bought my truck guys. After texting and emailing with three lame dealers, visiting two and sitting down and working deals out, I bought from my first dealer I visited, a local one.

2018 SR DCSB MGM with convenience package (keyless entry) and all weather mats, $27,533 sticker, bought for $24,500 plus tax and tags and a small DOC fee. The dealership they picked it up from had a second, smaller sticker added to the window sticker that said they added an "appearance package" for $599 and a "visual alarm" something for $299. Neither of these two charges were part of the sticker price, and I paid nothing toward them. I'm sure both of those are completely bogus. Considering the market around here was dried up for 2018s I am quite happy. This dealer went over 100 miles away to get this for me, and they also shopped for and got me, a 3.9% interest rate than the 4.9% they said was Toyota's.

At a different dealership, via email and phone, the saleswoman said she's get me the 2018 at the price I wanted. So I go there, and lo and behold, she had an emergency and wasn't available. Dealer wanted to put me in a 2019 they had on the lot. OK, I'm open to that if the price was right. No rebate, no incentives (supposedly). They refused to search for a 2018 for me. Lowest they'd go on price was $26,000. They started quoting me 5.7% finance rate, then dropped to 4.9%. When I said I could get 3.9 on my own, they refused to shop for any lower rates for me, told me to go and get a 3.9 rate on my own and then come back, and when I said I'll keep looking, they let me walk out.

I have to say, most dealers around here treat you like they don't need you. I've never been allowed to walk out of a dealership after sitting down with them, and not get a phone call a day or two later from them. This happened twice, even from the dealer I wound up buying from. I had to call them back after two weeks to get an appointment with my salesman. Not many trucks sold in this area, and no one wants to go out of their way to get you what you want.

Yep - automatic, got it in Greenville. Only had one more 2018 OR but had more extras/higher price. Had a lower price on a Quicksand Sport DCSB 4x4 but wanted an OR.

As long as your state has a tax agreement I see no reason to not look around especially if you are near a border or it’s a trip you want to take. That changes if you get to pay tax again back home, but with that agreement it’s a fun option in my view.
