It’s still a Ford. No thanks. As I’ve stated countless times on this forum we bought a fleet of ford crew trucks and will never make that mistake again. The only engine we could keep on the road was the coyotes. The scorpions had massive issues and the trannies are made of potato chips.

The chp and local law enforcement have had publicized issues with the trannies on their explorers as have fiesta and focus owners. Bluntly put, Ford has not made a decent transmission in decades.

Yes. The new Ranger will sell well. The F150 sells well and guess what?

Market research shows people keep their tundras longer and when they sell them they get better resale value. Sound familiar?

The 2.3t eb has had issues in the mustang. It has also been noted in car magazines that it loses power over time.

The 10speed tranny has also had its fair share of issues in both the gm and ford models it appears in.

As for the Gladiator, it’s a Jeep and will (to its benefit or detriment) ride like nothing else on the road. My hunting rig before my taco was a 2014 JKU. After 15k miles the interior was a symphony of squeaks, rattles and other assorted noises. The 3.6 pentastar is also a minivan motor (gasp) and is nothing to write home about. The manual is a nice tranny, I’ll give it that.

The ride on long distance trips is just short of sadistic and the JK forum complaints make the third gen forum seem quiet. And lol to anyone who hasn’t read up on the issues FCA is having with their 3.0 VM motori eco diesel. Remember, I also own a 2016 Cummins....I actually like some of FCAs products.

Can toyota improve the taco? You fucking bet.....And anyone who dislikes their taco and wants those features that the ranger provides or the uniqueness the gladiator promises shouldn’t hesitate to make the jump. I wish you nothing but luck.

Really disappointed Chevy and GMC don’t release monthly sales numbers. Like @Zion mentioned, I’m sure the Colorado and Canyon numbers would beat the Frontier but still fall short of the Tacoma. It will be interesting to see how much the Ranger impacts sales numbers.

Not only that, but Ford partnered with GM on that transmission. . .

Oops. You mentioned that later, but well worth repeating.

One thing that came up in the Gladiator thread was that the Wrangler outsells the Tacoma. Considering the general uses for each vehicle, that surprised me.

Is it true? What are the comparable numbers?

I just bought my Tacoma. I asked my service man that I have been bringing my cars for 30 years.
I asked him about the Tacoma and he told me he never has any come in for repairs. That was good enough for me. But I am a new Tacoma owner, so I shall see

I wonder if the new Gladiator is going to be built in the same Factory as the Wrangler.

I'm going rogue, thread jack, OT here, but damn. I thought the Ford Super Dutys were hit with the ugly stick:

They at least have a few redeeming angles.

I don't disagree with the Facts that you have stated.

I'll take it a step further and refer to recent long-term ownership study that showed 9 out of the 10 longest held vehicles were Toyota's. Furthermore, I held my own Second Gen for almost 10 years with no repair work as well.

However, there are core group of buyers that hold-on to their cars for an extended period. Usually they buy used or they buy new with cash or pay-off sooner than 5 years.

This is the core demographic that is drawn to Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Outside this core group, most people want whatever is cool or fits there immediate need, and don't mind having a lifetime of car payments. These people cycle through cars every 3-5 years, and they are forever in debt to an Autoloan.

For some reason, probably due to the Tacoma's aggressive design, the recent upsurge in popularity of Off-roading or Overlanding, and social media, the Tacoma has connected with people who are outside of the core Toyota demographic (hence record sales for the last 2 years)

Let's be frank here. Ford is and always will be a cooler brand. The Ranger with it's off-road focus and factory warrantied Overland accessories (RTT , Bed rack, etc.) is going straight for these non-core Toyota customers that would have purchased a Tacoma. Of course the core Toyota customers will most likely stay with the brand.

The Ranger is going to take-away these new customers away from the Tacoma. It's not going to take away from the F150.

The Ranger up'd it's cool factor to the maximum with the Raptor trim, and that's why it's close to taking the Global market crown away from the Hilux. Toyota had this market cornered for decades, and Ford should be commended for achieving this success. Toyota doesn't understand "cool". They did at one point.

Yep! And the fact that the base / fleet models use four halogens that are all burning on low beam really pisses me off. With the the high beam addicts out there, those low beams 5ft in the air don't help.

Yup! I've been doing that myself. I'm sure there is a cutoff, but I can't seem to see it when they're coming at me. I can't imagine what life is like for folks in cars.

This is mostly correct.....Fords are cool - until you suffer through owning one.

....and I'm not sure Toyota ever understood cool. I think that there is a group of consumers that define "cool" as simple, no nonsense and old school. In that context, Toyota will always be "cool".

The Toyota will make small adjustments each model year - they will focus not on topping Ford or Chevy, but on gradually adding content and getting whatever they can out of the platform. In 10 years or so, they will introduce a new Tacoma with slightly more content and a small evolutionary bump. At some point, a small portion of the people who migrated to the Gladiator and the Ranger will come back. They will realize that in the name of CAFE standards everyone is dealing with shitty shifting trannies. Once that field is leveled, they will begin to notice that Jeeps suck for commuting or for having to use as a work platform and the creature comforts of the Ford will wear thin when compared to the reliability problems.

You cannot be serious:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:. I do not think the "average" consumer/car buyer gives a shit about RTT or overland accessories o_O or if a vehicle is "cool." I think they look at price, reliability, safety, deals, usability, re-sales etc.. You seriously made me LOL hard on this one.

Stock suspension, stock wheels, stock bumper, stock, stock, stock, dammit!
I never owned a Ford Truck, but I did drive a fairlane for awhile before I bought my first toy truck, and it was a :poking:. Ford is a crappy company and has been for decades, so the lack of longevity is compounded by their customer service. Anybody remember the Pinto? Ford chose not to recall because litigation cost less than a recall. Ford vs Firestone? Ford blamed the Explorer roll overs on the tires when they knew they had a design problem. The Ford company has always cared more about profits than quality, and safety.

As my uncle used to say, Found On The Road Dead, Fix Or Repair Daily, Fork Over Repair Dough, Fing useless POS, etc

I will never own another Factory Ordered Road Disaster.
