I thought about that and might end up doing that, but I had some concerns that the MegaMat might get pinched or punctured when folding up, so for now I’ll just deflate and pack it up it. After this month’s trip I’ll play around with ways of attaching it, because that would be easier when I have to break camp a lot.

    If you think of it...

Would you mind sticking the Megamat on the cab side platform and snap a couple pics? I’m trying to see how it’ll work with the width of the front half and the bow pivots. If it can scrunch about those areas or if it’s even a concern.

Wife and I are giving the kids the standard mattesss and we are looking for options for the sleep platforms and deck.

No problem - I’ll open the Habitat tomorrow and take pics.

True enough concern, especially when spending that much on a mattress.

Did either of you ever officially figure out how to mount your awning to the habitat? I have been playing around with some ideas but didn’t want to try a recreate the wheel of either of you have already figured this out. Thanks.

I'm afraid not, but I do believe I'm going to copy @excorcist and use the L-track and L-brackets as he did earlier in this thread. I decided I didn't want the extra weight on the roof, and it would interfere with a dual swingout down the line when I finally get one.

I'm still working on getting mine mounted with L-track too, partly because I haven't had time to do anything with my truck the last couple months, and also because drilling holes in a $10k thing is scary, and I want to make sure I do everything perfectly correct without any fuckups. One thing I learned from my first experience using rivet-nuts is to make damn sure the holes are drilled perfectly centered where they need to be, otherwise that shit won't thread.

Yeah, i feel the same way about drilling. I really don't wanna screw something up. Luckily I have a friend with some experience with rivnuts and he's more than willing to help out. My main holdup right now, though, is the actual cost of buying the awning, awning room, and the mounting hardware. Christmas is expensive...

I was thinking about building some brackets that would use the L track I already have on the roof just didn’t know if anyone had figured out the best way to avoid the struts. I also am afraid of the added weight on the roof and I also don’t want to drill the sides of a already expensive price of equipment if I can help it. If I figure something out I will make sure to post some pictures.

What’s up guys, here’s how I mounted my awning to the habitat. The bracket is made by gofastcampers. When I first mounted it I realized it still wouldn’t clear the strut so a friend of mine made a 1” spacers to add more distance from the strut. I used rivnuts to mount the brackets, I’ve taken it through a few trails and so far so good. The only thing to worry about is you have to remember the awning is there through tighter trails.

Upper mid-west trails would do a number on that. But I’ve never wheeled anywhere on earth, sans a proper jungle, that has as more encompassing vegetation than here. So besides one place on the whole continent you are good to go!!

I’m working on a fix to mitigate tree branches and stuff. Kind of the same concept as limbrisers.

We used to put little v-shaped skid plate things to keep from removing antenna bases and antennas on our trucks. Let me see if I can find a pic.

    Edit:

    23AA9105-2D60-4A2A-B921-49FA5177C4B6.jpg

The circular hole just behind the plate is where the original primary antenna for that variant hmmwv resided. The plate acted to deflect branches into the floppy bit of the assembly rather than the multi-hundred dollar mounting base with the multi-hundred dollar antenna whip attached.

What I did is figured out where I wanted the L track, marked for two rivnuts, installed those and mounted up L-track using just those... Then marked every other hole. ~100 hole or so did not have one that was too off centered to thread the bolt in. I didn't even use a center punch for the holes when drilling, IF it was off center when I started drilling I just kid of "walked" the bit over to be centered... ITs pretty easy with a good bit to get it within less than 1mm of dead center every time.

I was worried at first too, but honestly whats the worst that can happen?

Been through all sorts of weather and still 0 water intrusion, and I go around and check every now and then to make sure things are tight. Everything has been solid and the extra bedspace is amazing. On one interior wall I usually have my guns and metal detectors along with water heater, on the other wall are the camp chairs and table. Exterior walls hold water and fuel as well as the awning. Roof rack has just hauled lumber from HD so far, but the girlfriend has been bothering the shit out of me for a paddleboard and I wouldnt mind one of those fancy fishing kayaks so those will go nicely up there.
