Our white cat Whitie (RIP) was deaf, but she knew when my wife came home. I'm guessing that she could feel the vibrations from the garage door going up and the motor running in the garage. Heather likes to crank the music too. She could "hear" us coming unless we were in the basement because the floor would vibrate.

Yeah, the vibrations makes sense for the garage and some of his other responses. He has had a lot of problems with dirty ears (my wife is always cleaning them - you can grow potatoes in there), so he may have frequency issues and not total hearing loss.

We got Blackie to 28, and my brother had a Siamese that he rescued from a breeder that lived to 29. Mid-teens is pretty typical for us though.

Ya my last two where 13 and 14 respectively when they passed from kidney failure.
My mom had a siamese that was 2 when I was born. At around 15 he disappeared as they often do so we figured he went somewhere to die. A couple months later I found him in an old garage down our alley. Pretty much starving and just a bag of bones. Took him home and cleaned him up and he died at 23 when I got home from college.
He was an amazing cat growing up, Eddie was his name. When I was really little I was put in an oxygen tent for a month. My mom said he placed from room to room every night looking for me. He was huge and would actually chase dogs out of the yard on occasion. Once came home beet up with a Canada goose for us! Damn I miss him!

    She’s a cutie.
I don’t have any experience with a cat with one eye but someone I worked with adopted a kitty that was blind. He was amazed at how well she figured things out and adapted.
I had a cat that was deaf and it was amazing how he too adapted.
I’d give the girl a chance and I’m sure you’ll be amazed how fast you’ll (and her too probably) forget she is missing an eye.

My mom told me a story about losing her cat when she was a kid in the early 1950's. They lived in a residential part of Canton, Ohio. Lots of small houses in small yards a few blocks from the main drag. They had a cat that disappeared one summer, and they all figured he'd been hit by a car or something. About a year later she and her sisters were walking home from the bus stop a few blocks from home and there was kitty sitting in an alley. He was dirty and skinny, but otherwise okay. They called him over, carried him home for some food and a bath, and had him for several more years before old age got him. Must have been some adventure.

Our cat, Hobbes (RIP), who we rescued and who was deaf (neglect from previous owners ) would sit at my drums when I played. He was so content. He was an awesome guy!!!

It’s sad when this happens but you both know what a great life he’s had with you and the joys (and sometimes headaches) he’s given to you!
