Wow, the barn's Stidham is declaring for the draft. Nothing about that guy has impressed me since he went to AU. Maybe its the offenses he was a part of, or maybe hes just not that good. I guess time will tell for him. Wish him the best of luck regardless, he seems like a good kid.

Stanford’s 2019 non-conference schedule is bonkers. UCF, Northwestern, and ND.

 

Rough start to a year. granted im sure when they made these choices it didnt look so bad a few years ago lol.

 

I think basketball and baseball fans are content with their playoff system, simply because there's so many in that you can't really argue against it. Sure, they could claim Duke, North Carolina and two other schools pass the "eye test" every year and Duke gets in every playoff but who really wants to see that? That's where we're at in college football. We're still holding onto the idea of "who are the two best teams?"; with more than two we no longer have to argue and let our biased "eye test" influence us. We need to let go of the idea of putting in the "best" teams and put in conference champions, those that have proved they're the best. Let the season matter, let the conference championship matter- if you can't win your conference, best or worst, you're surely not the best. This promotes and rewards consistency. Wouldn't it be great if college football had a Cinderella story? Who didn't enjoy watching Coastal Carolina win it all? Why couldn't UCF win it? I've heard Dabo Swinney says "grow where you're planted" so many times- so now reward those who have outgrown their one and two star HS rankings.

Get rid of one cupcake game.
Start the season one week later.
Add a round of bowl games one week before New Year's round.
All power 5 conference champs get in. The remaining 5 conferences produce 3 champs. The remaining 2 play in a single bowl to settle last place.

Playoff contention starts conference game one, playoffs begin conference championship weekend.
Go ahead and schedule the hardest out of conference teams- it doesn't affect your conference chances so won't hurt your playoff chances.

I believe this will promote spreading talent across more schools and would likely balance conferences over the long run.
You want to claim best conference? Win more championships in this scenario and you literally will be and no one can deny it.

I'd personally leave out UAB and Northern Illinois this year (by chance they are playing each other in the Boca Raton Bowl).
