Coolant level is low again... after I replaced the coolant hose going to the oil filter. I don’t think I see any traces of coolant in the engine bay now. Any chance it could be the heater core?

It is possible but I feel like you'd notice because the core is back behind your dash.

You'd probably have excessive condensation on windows, coolant smell, or damp carpets if it was heater core.

You're positive it isn't head gasket or anything internal? No coolant in oil or weird exhaust?

Also, could be a lower radiator hose, do you have any drips in the driveway or a droplet hanging from any hoses/skids/cross members?

Where are you checking the level? Cool with the cap off or in the overflow tank?

Look for pinkish crusty stuff around all the hoses. Even though it isn't dripping onto the ground that's a sign of an ever so slight leak. Sometimes also it may of just burped an air pocket and dropped the coolant level. just keep an eye on it. If it consistently gets low look into finding other leaks.

My biggest fear that it is something internal. I’m checking it in the overflow reservoir, I haven’t looked inside the radiator. I’ve crawled under there a good number of times and can’t find any pink stuff anywhere. The parking spaces at my apartment are black which make it hard to see on the ground. Since I don’t have any cats, I couldn’t tell you what coolant mixed with the exhaust would smell like

This is what I was thinking since I have no idea just how low it got. If the reservoir drops again then I think I can confirm the leak is still there

Archery in high school is really picking up. Glad to see it, more young kids need to be in the woods compared to on their phones and YouTube. Hell high schools even have fishing teams now too!

There's an outside chance, since you are checking the res, it's just evaporation due to underhood temps.

There's only a few places the water can go- on the ground via a leak, skidplates via a leak, into the engine oil, or out the exhaust.

If you have "white smoke" coming out the tailpipe- it ain't smoke. It's water. It could be condensation in the exhaust for about the first 20 minutes or so, depending on environment, or could be coolant- and thus, expensive.

If it's in the oil, the oil will look like a milkshake. Check it.

Otherwise, we are chasing out posterior here. Check the radiator, not the reservoir.

The factory transmission coolers are combined with the radiator thus they can intermingle and cause issues.

I suppose, but I'm pretty sure he'd notice transmission shifting faults if that were the case.

Also, that's an exceedingly rare failure mode.

They've been working on archery the past few weeks at the middle school i work at. Some of the kids really get into it.

I wish they had fishing/archery teams when I was in school.. That would've been awesome!

I haven’t noticed a white smoke from the exhaust upon startup. How white is it supposed to be? Also the transmission seems to be running like it normally has but that doesn’t necessarily mean coolant isn’t in there.

What does coolant in the exhaust smell like?
