    Honestly hate trophy hunters.

And very good point. Gotta love all the Americans claiming a gun.
Short of a head shot or possibly multiple head shots your pistol likely won't stop the bear fast enough. If you even have a chance to draw.

If it's charging you you're probably getting attacked before you can even react.

Regardless most bears are afraid of people even grizzly. They don't want to interact with us usually so as long as you don't surprise and corner them, or get near their young they'll likely leave you alone and bear spray is your best bet. As it makes it harder for them to breathe and see.

Unless you are taking it down with one shot any shots you get off are likely pissing that bear off even more. If you're close enough to 'need' a gun to protect yourself you're probably to close to do anything besides piss it off so it kills you . You might kill it too sure if you injure it enough . But it's not going down before taking you down too. But I mean you're all expert marksman right? And you wouldn't just freeze scared shitless when a big angry bear is coming at you.

Hey if it's black bears just look at them they usually run away

I tried one a few times. I wasn't a fan. Just wasn't confident that the zippers would pull open properly in the heat of things, despite my best efforts to make it fail. I'd much rather have a dedicated kydex holster to draw from. I do like the "covert" nature of the HPG kitbag though, even though anybody in the know, knows that that is...

Also didn't like that it took 2 hands to manipulate. Gotta think if someone or something was on top of you, you'd wanna be fending them off as you drew or at least protecting your face.

Did you see the Revenant? That was probably a 50 cal. muzzle loader. My colleague, a bear wildlife biologist will take bear spray over a rifle anytime. A .44 will just piss them off.

Well, the coming fires will take care of the latter, and probably the former.

A soft lead 50cal roundball weighs about 182grs at velocities maxing out around 2000fps. You get one shot with pretty poor terminal ballistics and then you have a 4' long club. A 44 Magnum hardcast bear load will penetrate much better and have a much higher chance of stopping the bear. Not to mention being easier to handle with five or six shots in hand.

You don't see many Canadians getting attacked .And it's not like any of us are carrying pistols while in the bush. Unless you have a trappers license you can't even legally carry one. They tend to keep away.

Honestly firing into the air would be better than shooting it. Shooting it will just piss it off more.

Only good a gun might do you is if you're with someone else and you can shoot them in the leg so the bear gets them first lol
