may need to try it. couldnt break the lugs with it. had to use my breaker. but.. this thing is being a general PITA with its grime and corrosion. SMH. had to go buy more PB blaster and de-greaser.

Have you ever mixed up acetone and ATF fluid 50/50? i hear it works wonders for corrosion and seized up junk.. Never tried it myself as i havent had that issue yet (knock on wood)

never heard of it. might have to try it. I picked up some GUNK heavy duty stuff. we'll see. I think a good soak and some time with a pressure washer and I think I can get most of it. That'll be the last thing I do when its all done. blast the engine and underside..

It's supposed to be the shit.. home made, cheap, and better than anything you can buy at the store. here are the torque values needed to break stuff loose

BUT... its giving me some problems again.. center link is of course seized on. after taking all 5 castle nuts off, and beating the BJ's, link, etc.. it wont break free. Same with the BJ's on the spindle itself. Which lead me to looking around more.. and finding that not only is the BJ on the passenger side of the center link blown out.. but the LCA on the passenger side is buckled...

    Driver side... good

    IMG_20181203_173631.jpg

    passenger side.. bad.. lol

    IMG_20181203_173557.jpg

oh.. and this center cross member.. which is just a tube.. lol.. is pretty close to straight..

    IMG_20181203_174811.jpg

so this leads me to my next question.. do I replace the LCA? and if so.. both? and if so.. uppers too?

I want to... but funds and time is becoming a factor now. I need to get this back on the road so I can put the Taco away again. starting to defeat the purpose..

looks like I can get Lowers for $34 a piece from RockAuto.. and a set of uppers for $43 from Ebay. But then I need bushings for both as well.

If its going to be down a for awhile.. unfortunately.. I'm kind of rethinking the suspension. now would be the time.. Looking at 3" lowering control arms. $250. may or may not even need to do the BJ flip with it.. and I could gain the ride quality back by putting some preload in the torsions again and fine tune the drop. I would do the uppers at the same time. already have the BJ's for it all. Just need new bushings for the lowers. maybe some bumps. and then the front end would be all new minus the tierods and other links... which I might replace too.. who knows.. AND it would be a clean drop vs dirty. The rear I will just rock the 4" blocks until I do the rear leafs and bushings. Looking at $350-$400 all said and done for Lowering LCA's, UCA's, and LCA Bushings.

    decisions..

EDIT: after some shopping around.. I can get the Uppers, LCA's, and Poly bushings for both for $285.

I say do it right the first time since it's already torn down. It'll suck now since it's more expensive than at first glance but you'll be glad you did it right first, plus piece of mind that everything is good to go

Rockauto has them at $34 +shipping. Might as well replace both of them.

yeah.. thats what I saw too. I'm going to do the lowering control arms from DJM instead. better ride in the end.

Priced out the steering components from RockAuto:

Idler Arm + Bushing = $22 (may not need)
    Pitman Arm x2 = $25
    Steering Damper = $26
    Tierods (Inner/Outer) x2 = $20
    Adjustment Sleeves x2 = $6

    = $100.

    Also need to order:

    UCA's = $45
    Energy Poly Bushings (UCA's, LCA's, Leafs/Hangers) = $70
Energy Poly Low Pro Bumps F/R = $80
    3" Drop LCA's = $200
    3" Drop Leafs = $200

    = $595.

I think thats it.. plus what I already have to do:

    Monroe Shocks F/R
    Energy Poly SwayBar Bushings/Endlinks
    Upper and Lower Balljoints
    Rotors and Pads
    Centerlink
    Wheel Studs

All new suspension. Dropped 3/4(Clean). New shocks. All new steering. New bushings. New studs. New wheels. New Brakes. New Bumps.

I definitely screwed myself tho... Should have degreased and pressure washed under the truck before hand. I degreased.. but didn't pressure wash. I'm to the point now where I think I'm just going to take a cutoff wheel to some of these links and other parts. Might even order new spindles while I'm at it since these BJ's are seized in there pretty good. Everything is seized pretty good..

You sound like you are driving deeper down the rabbit hole like me. What was originally going to be a 120k service has now turned into "well I might as well replace this too while I'm here." I have worked my way all the way back to the turbos now. Rebuilt ones are on order. Hey there little guy.

    20181202_052046.jpg

I'm over 4k into parts and haven't bolted one back on yet. Lol. She should be running like a top though. Fingers crossed.

My late FIL has one similar to this with the 22r. Watching this makes me wanna drag it out of the weeds and replace the floorboards along with a few $,$$$ or parts. LOL.

Keep up the good fight. Lots of us are jealous.

as much as it is frustrating.. its just as enjoyable. its almost like adult legos. IDK. its so simple and basic and easy to work on (minus the grease and grime).. its exciting seeing it come together.

    I appreciate it man.
