That's what I was thinking... If that's 'cold', you really aren't going to like January 'round here.

This drove me nuts when I got my Tacoma. you can see from my fuelly that I lose 3mpg in the winter. Tank goes from fill up at 410 to fill up at 360...It's because 1. Winter fuel has less inherent energy as the smaller carbon chains have less bonds and less power. 2. Cold air is denser, more wind resistance..3. The biggest issue is the cold start engine. If you hook up a OBD2 or scanner you will see your initial fuel consumption for the first several min you're running your cold engine is insane. Warming up a car for more than 30 seconds is even worse...Then you're getting zero mpg.The only solution is a heated garage but the cost of heating a garage is far greater than a few extra dollars per fill up...

Asked my contractor about it this morning when I went to finish up some deer fencing and he pretty much said the same thing. Don't pay for more expensive stuff, just roll some in around the bathrooms, bedrooms and maybe back wall of kitchen for noise, the rest wouldn't really do anything. We are a ranch and w/ basement so no need to do ceiling. If I finish off the basement I'd probably add some to the basement ceiling at that point.

Turd gen ain't doing so well either. I don't know the mpg, but I've dropped at least 2-3. I'm having to fill up much more often the past few weeks and my truck doesn't have the same punch as before.

Funny you just mentioned that, I was looking today and my usual 21.9 mpg has gone down to 19.0. Almost 3 mpg different with winter blend gas, freakin' bullshit. What is the point of winter blend gas again?

I'm at about 18MPG with winter blend. Previously I was getting 23MPG, shit sucks.

Same with the ford. When I got it in October I was averaging about 21-22 but the past couple weeks it’s been 19.5ish

I'm in the 13-14 MPG range now. Percentage-wise, it's about the same drop you all are experiencing, I just started at a lower base line...

I'm sure I could do better if I had a longer commute, since as mentioned I pick up about 2mpg's once the transmission warms up. But, because of the volume of fluid it takes about 30 minutes of solid driving to get the transmission up to its operating temp. Since my commute lasts all of 15 minutes, I'm still pushing cold fluid by the time I get to work or home.

Anything lower than.. 70 is too cold in my opinion.

But, I have some -20f freezers that I occasionally have to venture into.

Yes, I know I live in the wrong part of the country. For now.... gotta follow the money. Doesnt mean I have to be happy about the climate.

I hope you have a freezer suit.
I have put in a few years in a freezer and I wouldn’t even think about staying more than a half hour at those temps

Oddly that makes me feel better. I don't want to cut my truck, so hearing that setup doesn't work 100% without cutting means I can tell myself it wouldn't work how I'd want it and let it go.

Catching up with the rest of the thread here. My truck sees a 1 to 2 MPG hit with the BFGs, so when winter blend comes out and I get a 1 to 2 MPG over summer blend I break even.

Lastly, I keep thinking about getting a third vehicle. I cannot afford said third vehicle, but I want one. The problem is what I want keeps changing daily.

Yeah, I was at 23-24. Now I am stuck around 21. 20 if I let it idle to warm up at all.
