FALKEN WILDPEAK AT3/W CONCERNS

I have a lifted turd gen on Falken Wildpeak AT3/Ws and I am beginning to have some concerns in regards to the tires. I have approximately 10,000 miles on the tire so far. They have seen dirt a fair bit including some rocky trails here in Colorado and also some slickrock in Moab. I recently blew a tire out and it has lead me to inspect every inch of the remaining tires. I do a 5 tire rotation every 3,000 miles and inspect them meticulously when doing so. Recently after blowing out the one tire i found ‘splits’ in the tread of two other tires in doing my inspection... Please see the attached pictures and let me know if I should be concerned. The last thing I want is another blowout that could cause a loss of control.

 

If you had your tire that blew out on you you could check the carcass depth to see how much you have left.
That is not many miles on your tires, you did go wheeling but still they look worn, not a lot of tread as well.

 

SL or E rated?

 

I would be very concerned with taking those out on trails considering you've lost one already. That cracking reminds me of trailer tires that have seen 10 years of summer sun.

 

He's well above the tread wear bars as shown in some of the photos so thats a non issue.

@Doozy4212 I'd be going back as soon as possible to where you purchased them from and show them the tires and tell them about the blowout. Tires shouldnt have cracks/splits/seperations between the lugs like that regardless of offroad usage. None of the lugs look chunked or cut so i doubt you'll have a problem getting replacements.

@Discount Tire Direct what would yall do?

 

Those things look like they are sipped to the core

 

I'd be most scared of taking those on the highway. yikes.

 

Return to your installer, they need to go.
Wouldn’t trust them on or off road.

 

They come with a 55,000 mile warranty and even though they have seen time offroad I feel they should not look like this at all. The stock wranglers that burned up in 27,000 miles looked better.

My thoughts exactly, I'm OCD about the truck, it's garage kept and otherwise pristine.

A few lugs are chunked but not bad, basically just the corners of the lugs.

Factory siping, nothing done to the tires other than being mounted on the rims

Yeah, it's concerning to say the least




Interested to see what @Discount Tire Direct would do.

I'm running the tires now. Before, I had BF Good rich mud tires.

When I was in Colorado my BF Goodrich tires dried and cracked like that real quick due to the dry climate and sun. I agree with the others on the idea of taking them back to the seller to see if they can do anything for you, but I found that the mud also dried the tires out faster, too. So with all that in mind, Colorado is a good place for tires to dry out and crack really fast.

Out right safety hazard, not just for you but everyone else on the road around you and your truck..

I'd take them off like yesterday... I'd also want my money back.!

Falken should be concerned with that IMO.

You've already had a blow out, so it's not like being over reactive.


I remember years ago Firestone was having blow out issues..

 

Yeah, im with you. I am not comfortable driving the truck whatsoever at the moment and will be calling Falken first thing in the morning. I have already fired off an email to them but have not heard anything back yet, I also cannot waste time regarding this matter. I will most definitely be working with Discount Tire, my offroad shop here in Denver and Falken to get this all straightened out

 

I would like to have faith Falken will take care of me since they are very highly rated tires and have performed well for me otherwise. I like the tire and i’m hoping this can be chalked up to manufacturing issues and not something of my doing.

 

You are well above the 2/32 wear bar. What is the DOT Date of Manufacture?

 

Oh yeah. All tires are between 9-11 32nds. I can look at the date tomorrow but it can’t be too long ago as the tire were just put on in June.

 

I’m sorry, they were installed on May 30th by RSG Offroad in Denver

 

Is this manufacturer date?
