I don’t understand why toyota cant figure out how to make a truck or suv with good gas mileage.

exactly. once you over complicate the engine and transmission you will run into reliability issues for a while. until the product is refined. The new Camry and shit with the 8 speed are the perfect example.

im not saying a higher MPG tunda will always be unreliable. But for a while it would be. toyotas probably got test mules out there trying to make new tech perfect. but it wont be seen for a while if so

Totally true, and to a certain extent with a truck I just don't care. Sure it'd be awesome if my truck got 30 mpg, but I wouldn't sacrifice anything for it, if mpg is that big of a concern get a commuter car and a truck, no matter how good of mileage a truck gets they will always have higher wear and tear on consumables then a car. Exactly why even though something like a cummins gets amazing mileage for its size they aren't actually cheaper to own/drive

most truck owners (that use them as trucks) feel that way. Toyota experiments with the cars usually. the markets more willing to accept it. The trucks are built to be trucks (yes they have luxury these days, you have to to be competitive) Toyota's always been conservative on innovation in their trucks

I just love how they have always overbuilt everything, makes them so much more badass then the competition.

after tearing toyota engines apart i can indeed say theyre overbuilt for sure.

Does the 3.5 need 6 bolt mains? no. does it need forged rods? no

hell even the insides of toyota transmissions are beefy for what they are (usually clutch packs are the limiting factor in power.

only let downs are the rust issues (only on the trucks.. any toyota car 05ish and newer really doesnt have rot issues) And some of the Dif designs being a little weak

Yeah you hear of far less catastrophic failures of really any Toyota parts compared to other brands, frames being the exception. I'm hoping my transmission holds up haha, already done a clutch in it but I have a bad input shaft bearing and really don't wanna pull it again. We'll see how that goes 50k from now

honestly the frame thing while bad isnt as bad as some people think.. Out here in good ol indiana ive had to condem multiple chevys and fords due to frame rot. Hell our Chevy we have as a spare plow truck at toyota has a cracked frame caused by rot and its an 12

Not many car brands can say they replace frames under their vehicles for free (and honestly the replacement frames seem to hold up better than the originals. some are getting close to 10 winters. still holdin up good. )

my dads 02 is still on the original frame. Its held up great honestly. but hes been good at cleaning underneath when the roads are clear

Sometime next year i'll be pulling the bed and removing the toyota undercoat shit and givin it a proper repaint
