Satoshi Grill Done! Perfect Mesh Contour!

Got my Satoshi finished today! I saw a bunch of ways on this forum to attach the mesh but I wanted to use nuts and bolts. joneill03 pointed out that the rear of the grill has a slight curve to it, especially on the sides.

I cut plastic filler pieces for the holes left in the sides and bondoed them in place. Another member came up with this great idea as an alternative to filling with fiberglass. I tried searching for the thread but couldn't find it.

The mesh is from customcargrills.com and was pre-cut to fit the Tacoma. I special ordered the 1/4" perforated mesh instead of the standard diamond pattern.

I used twelve 3" long #10x32 bolts and wingnuts to secure the mesh in place. I roughed up the back of the grill with 60 grit sandpaper and used bondo to tack the bolts in place. Everything is secure and I tightened down on the wingnuts a good bit and the bondo is holding just fine. The wingnuts pull the mesh down so it fits the contours of the mesh perfectly.

For the inner grille I used grey wheel paint. It about matches the stock color of the center section exactly. Haven't put it on the truck yet but I will tomorrow! A TRD emblem is waiting for it when I get back home

Looks nice and it will be super-easy to swap out mesh if you want to do so down the road.

 

Nice job , you might want to put some Loc-Tite on the wing nuts so they don't back off if you are hitting bumps .

Yea, I gotta try that bondo way... twice now I have had to reglue my zip ties... this time I used a crapload of gorilla superglue and so far it has held.

Figures the second night I had it completed on my truck, I hit a god damn bird, smacked right into my grille.

I got the grille piece from www.customcargrills.com. They precut it to match the tacoma grill. I got the powdercoated 1/4" perf .esh for $50 shipped.

 

USN, I had to call them and ask for the 1/4 perf mesh. The precut grill comes standard with the diamond pattern mesh. They charged me $10 more for the perf mesh. You should be able to get them to get any of their mesh patterns powdercoated and precut for the taco.

I don't know how it gets hungry, it eats about 1,000 bugs a night. I drive on backroads on the way to work, at night, and surrounded by blueberry fields. You should see the size of some of those little winged bastards.

I promise I will get mine done soon. I haven't seen anyone use a plastic welder yet, I have one and will go that route. Also thought about welding plastic blocks onto the inside and drill and tap for a regular bolt to attach the grille.

I've Seen lots of PVC Welding Done, With Good Results.
I think The "Blocks" Idea" is Great.
I Had Considered That, But Didn't Have The Stock Handy
