Does anyone know a good place in Tucson to get a regear installed?

Has anyone had an issue after putting in gears where at redline at WOT the truck just falls on its face. Hitting rev limiter and fuel cut off?

I'm running the TSB with 4.88's and 265/70/17 tires. More and more lately if at wide open throttle and the truck reaches redline it just cut's out and stumbles then upshifts and then away it goes. Happens in all gears in almost all situations.

Ah so I ran into the rev limiter but even with 5.29s I had to really to stomp the gas to do it. Ya the truck basically just topped out until it shiffted. Normal as far as I can tell and no real reason to be revving that high anyway. I dont drag race the truck so no reason to ever have the gas pedal pegged like that.

oh i agree. but around here if you're not up to speed and you need to merge, it can happen. most of the time it's in that 2-3 shift area.

there's also times i need to pass on a single lane highway. last thing i want is the truck to putt out when i have oncoming traffic.

How many miles on the new gears? Tranny may need more time to figure itself out.

    yes
I've learned to drive without hitting the cutoff by not thinking my truck is anything sportier than a lifted truck with 35s and gears.

Where would y'all recommend getting Nitro 4.88's for a 2018? The Toyota master mechanic at my dealership said he would do the work for $600, I just need to bring in the gears.

If that price includes pulling the pumpkins that is a killer deal. check the group buy section - there was a Nitro gear group buy going on. If not check with @Babyjake16 - he may be able to point you in the right direction for a much better price than vendors or Nitro direct. GL.

I’m pretty sure nothing changed really from 17 to 18. Depending if your truck is AT or MT and what tire size you run. Some feel the MT is perfect (depending on tire size)
The AT i’d say regear would be beneficial regardless. The double overdrives are too tall...I wish Toyota continued to have used the 5 speed auto but whatever’s. 4:88’s and 33’s on my truck feels perfect

$600 is deals tho. I paid 760 for labor

Thanks for the heads up on the group buy. I will give him a shout when he gets off of work to confirm, but when we talked he said he was going to plan for 17 hours of labor to do front and rear. I had just assumed that meant pulling pumpkins.

those kind of hours would, or should, include pulling them, removal, install and set-up on new gears, …. the whole tamale and some breaks between. Still a great price.

I just had 4.88 installed in mine. No noises.

The shop recommended the following break in period regardless of the polish (mine is cryo'd).

First 100mi, 15-20mi driving under 50mph, easy on the throttle. After 15-20mi, let truck cool off for 30min.

Next 400mi, drive under 65mph, easy on the throttle.

    At 500mi, change diff oil.

Amazing difference now compared to stock, and got some MPGs back. Really happy with it.

What size tires?? 285/75R17?? 33-34”?? I’m just curious cuz I’m about to buy a 2019 TRDOR and I’ve already purchased all suspension parts and plan on running that size tire\wheel.. I have no issues (that i can tell) on my 2012 running similar size.. seems the gears will cost an additional $2+K.. oh boy!!

Any issues with wide open throttle and upshifts?

I’ve posted about mine having issues on the upshift and pulling major power after the shift. Then comes back.
