    Hey Jesse, have any more pics/tips of how you relocated your secondary air injection pump? I am wanting to put my reservoir in the same place as you and @Athlaos but im not sure how to move that air pump around..

    In the Tacoma I cheated a bit since I have an early distributor model. I watched where it was messing with the timing the most under load and boost and retarded the base timing a couple degrees since it was all low RPM stuff. Just means it maxed out at 29° of total advance instead of 32° which it'll almost never see cruising around anyway. I didn't think it was worth it to piggyback for 7psi. I did run a lot of water/meth, mostly needed the water TBH. But if I got out of the PHX area and even got to say 2000' above sea level I hardly needed the meth on. At 3000' I could hit it with all 6.5psi and it would maintain anywhere from 19° to 26° of timing without the meth.

    The 87 Z is a 9:1 compression engine, vs the 7.8:1 or 8.2:1 of the turbo models (depends on year which comp ratio you have). Pretty brutal torque curve on your Z though, I'd love to have the early attack that the DOHC seem to have. I'm banking on Schneider 270/270 grind cams to get me where I need to be because the VG30E is built for boost abuse but they didn't think about boost vs NA with the cam profile which is the same between the two.

    Ah. 9:1 is decent for boost lol. Maybe one day I’ll rebuild the motor (what am I saying, of course one day I will) and I’ll lower that down. Some guys in the club do 9:1 and get some amazing numbers. Usually it’s 8.5:1 though which is stock in 2nd gen turbo cars.

    That torque is all due to the variable timing on the intake cams. Does the ‘87 have a version of that? I can’t remember. 270/270 sounds pretty freaking aggressive, you’d definitely feel something. Believe it or not, the 2nd gens have the same cams for NA and Turbo cars too. There’s a difference in the intake cams for auto cars though. Less aggressive.

    8.7:1 - 9:1 seems to be the sweet spot for the VG30 and boost. A lot of the turbo Z31 guys that build for power start with an NA block, they're decent to about 650RWHP before you need to build the bottom end. The VG30E is SOHC, we have stout heads but they don't flow near as well as the VG30DE does. The 270/270 cams are pretty common upgrade for the Z31 because you only need a moderate increase in valve spring pressure we have factory dual valve springs so you only need to upgrade the outer for them . Bonus is you can rev out to 7200RPM after that. It's Amazon how much the VG30 changed between SOHC and DOHC versions, still a super stout power plant either way though.

    The idle from the 270 cams is a nice side effect too, here's a clip of them in a supercharged VG33 from an Xterra...

    @White lightning boosted
    Did you drill new holes and tap them when you moved your secondary air pump? Or what all was involved with relocating it?

    I moved it alright. Nothing proud enough to photograph. I am considering using my windshield washer tank instead. I've owned the truck for almost a year and never refilled it. The boost juice is just fine for washer fluid too.

    Speak for yourself. In Texas I go through at least 3 gallons washer fluid minimum in the summer. Gotta get the bugs off while the guys are still fresh. Mmmmm!

    I bet you do. I'll just make my washer take useful by making it dual purpose.

    How much boost do you make with your 2.6? And is your exhaust opened up? Or are you running cats

    It's not hard to do as there are extra threaded mounting holes in the area. It just depends on what you have installed in the area because different models have different configurations.

    I have the sport model.. Looks like the VSC thing is mounted behind that closest to the firewall and then the airpump is right there. I did see the extra threaded holes. Do you know if relocating it requires any bending of the brackets?
