TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

I can't remember who did, but someone posted a picture some time back of either the URD Stage 2 or 3 clutch all fried up. It may had been a botched install or something, but it did look pretty toasted for sure.

Maybe they'll chime in if they see this.

This one gave up at 50. You still running the 2.8?

 

Yep. I mean its a wear and tear item. If I get 50k out of mine with the abuse I put it through, I'll be happy.

Lmao, I just turned in my insurance papers for mileage. I was generous and put 5500 miles, it's about 5k if not lower, but I don't want a hassle for going to low even tho it's real. I think they need a manager to sign off on it or something.

Yeah thinking about it like that, if you run 5 or even 10K a year for 5 years assuming it is going to give out at 50, that's not bad at all. Especially the way we all drive. Hahaha.

Are you talking about the new AFE Momentum with the cold air scoop that sits above the radiator? That should work just fine. I am running the AFE stage 2 intake. Livingston is about the same elevation as I am in Pocatello. Definitely get a AFR gauge hooked up and see what your numbers are. I have the 2.85 pulley now and get about 4lbs of boost. Debating between the 2.7,2.6 and 2.5 with injectors. Want the 2.5 but kinda want to maintain a bit more reliability. Because I know myself and if I have boost, I use it, and I don't want to go breaking other parts. My truck plays too many roles when it comes to how I use it. I can't be without it if it were to break something. Again. LOL

 

It's only unreliable if it is running incorrectly.

 

Well, I tried resetting the ecu. Seems a bit better. Drove it to a doctor appointment this afternoon to get s’more rust carved out of my eye (my other car project bit me). The knocking seems to be less/gone while stomping on the gas (open loop). Where I’m seeing lean and knock is the places in between. Partial throttle acceleration where boost comes in mildly. Say 4-5 psi and the afr’s stay in the mid 14’s. The truck moves along just fine, but, I can hear it knocking. Daddy doesn’t like. I don’t really think there’s a simple solution here. The maps need tweaking.

Boost seems to be peaking in the mid 8’s. With the 2.5” pulley for me. Maybe there’s some belt slippage happening. I can’t tell for sure.

The truck moves pretty good now tho. First gear requires throttle restraint to avoid wheel slip now. Even just normal driving in other gears requires less gas pedal. Makes cool whippersnapper blower noises when revving too. Some people never grow up.

 

Thats the intake I'm taking about. I think I'll get the 2.85 after my AFR's installed. This is my daily driver as well and would suck if I broke it while

 

This cooler weather is awesome. Drove to the airport this am and it was about 34. Saw 8 psi with part throttle just passing. Vroom!

 

Is the bypass valve staying partially open?

 

Agreed! The cold weather is great. Makes it hard to keep your foot out of it!
