NO MODS YET! 20" Enkeis with NT420 performance tires coming soon...inspired by genxer36.
    ok,
Ford took back the Ranger - i only put 48 miles on it. Of course they tried to persuade me to stay with ford (as if I wasn't expecting that right?). But I told them of that Toyota offered to pay for my maintenance of a new Tacoma. Ford said it's just a way for Toyota to trap me. But I doubt it - the Toyota forms and the service contract say otherwise - it specifically says Toyota takes the responsibility of the labor and parts of my maintenance oil changes/filter, spark plugs, all fluids, inspections, etc. with the exception of wear & tear parts and any needed repairs outside the maintenance schedule and the standard warranty.
I had to show the Ford salesmanger the contract for him to believe.

So i Found another Toyota dealer 80 miles south of where I live. They have access cab V6 but with TRD offroad pkg which bumps the price up. They holding it for me so here goes.

Is that girl next to you for sale :D

Just kidding I have a question for u:
The truck I'm going for looks like yours only it is the magnetic grey metallic color (thx TacoCo for showing me that color - I think it beautiful) and has backup camera. Do the stock off-road tires serve well on wet/dry dirt/gravel roads or did you have to change yours. And iff so, what did u choose? Thanks.

thats awesome! i cant believe ford didnt give you a hard time. there are some exceptions for toyota service, but for the most part they are extremely concerned with customer care and how they are viewed publicly.

as for tires, none of the tacos come with good tires. the off roads have bfg rugged trails which suck in teh mud and hydroplane kinda bad (at least mine did on multiple occasions) but they are fine for dirt and gravel and dry terrain. i upgraded mine before they were a year old

Yeah, the BFG Rugged Trail tires aren't great, and you can only expect to get about 30-35k miles on them. I promptly took them off, put 'em on my old 4Runner, which had badly worn tires on it, and sold it with them. I did have them on the Tacoma for about 500 miles, and took it off roading, and they did fine on dry dirt and gravel. I wound up replacing the BFG's with Michelin AT2's, which I'm really happy with so far... how they handle in snow remains to be seen, but it shouldn't be long now.

Same here. Suffered through my Rugged Fails for 8k, and then gave up and swapped them out. They were passable with just about everything except fine snow or mud as the tread packed too soon and didn't clean out so you had zero traction.

My Kumho Roadventure ATs have more thread on them after 20k than the Rugged Fails had brand new!

Yeah they took it back but they did try persuasion to get me to avoid toyota. they mentioned things like toyota engine sludge problems on millions of their vehicles and things of that nature. But I did research on that and found that the Tacoma truck wasn't in that category.it was the older engines of the camrys, avalons, siennas, highlanders and even their Lexus ES and RX 300s models.
I don't have problems with hydroplaning as the hills allow rain water to run off. but there is some dirt roads I take that get muddy and stuff.

Wow, I'm pretty amazed you were able to get it returned that easily to ford... guess that speaks a little for ford's service in your area. Honestly though, I think you made the right choice!

They don't have any tread life guarantees on the AT2's, but my friend has their LTX M/S tires on his 4Runner... They have 70k miles and plenty of tread left

You'll dig that Magnetic Gray... it looks even better in person

I love the stock tires. They have performed well on all surface types I have been on. The only thing they haven't been on with these tires is ice.

Forgot to come back on here and let u guys know I now own a 2009 access cab Off-Road 4x4 automatic that is magnetic grey. Dealer gave great price $4,226 off MSRP 30,700. kinda high for an access cab but it was loaded with options that I didn't really expect - sport seats, Towing pkg, skid plate, seven speakers what looked like 2 ceiling-mounted speakers and has a subwoofer.

but it's fine it had VSC + TRAC, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) and Downhill Assist Control (DAC) :p which the Ranger lacked.
I figure I need those things because of the hilly areas where I live. Besides Toyota paying my services right? So all in all I made the right decision hehe :D

Thanks all for answering my questions. I am going to keep the stock tires to see how they perform. If I'm unsatisfied I'll change them.

BTW Truck performs good on the hilly areas where I live. much like my V8 F-150.

    Great truck overall:D
