Finally a fix from Toyota for Stumble condition (TSB 0062-18)

I requested this one, haven’t driven it yet but they said they did it.

 

GEN 2 has better performance. GEN 3 has a better look, but lack of power.

 

I should of just stuck to my 1996 Toyota Camry. My truck drives just exactly like the Camry. Lol

 

I finally added TSB 0062-18 with the dealer the day after Thanksgiving. I showed him the TSB printed out and he furrows his brow for a minute and said he never heard of it. But, he didn't give me a hard time at all and said he'd update it. After driving it for a couple of weeks, I've noticed that the shifts are a lot cleaner and it doesn't actively seek the higher gear so quickly as to lose acceleration. Gas mileage? I'm not seeing huge improvements there like some have said. Maybe a little better, but certainly no worse. I'm happier with the truck for sure after the update and do not regret getting it.

Had mine updated yesterday and very pleased with it.

 

There are at least two issues with gear hunting, one at high speed and one at low speed. I had the T-SB 0062-18 done a couple of weeks ago and the seems to have taken care of the gear hunting at high speed. But it Definitely did not touch the low speed problem. My ‘17 Off Road used to do 19-20 per gallon but now it dropped to 17-18. Supposedly they hooked up a tool and drove it to record the gear hunting and sent that to Toyota. I’m told they don’t have a fix for this problem. Very disappointed. I’ve owned this truck not even 2 months.

 

18% more hp in 3rd and faster passing times. 2nd gen a tad faster off the line but thats where it ends.

 

Octane is the problem for that stumble at really low RPMs. I run 93 oct and the stumble is gone the second I go back to 87 it comes back. I just had the TSB applied today and it has made a difference in shift pattern. I’m currently not running the OV tune right now. I may apply it after I put some miles on it

 

If I run premium fuel I have zero stumble. As soon as I go back to regular the stumble comes back.

 

Yup I know the feeling. I’m sure there will be an update sometime that will address this. A couple service writers I’ve talked to are well aware of the issue

 

Mine is a totally different truck off premium. The tech I talked to said “all” these trucks “do this” and that premium helps.

 

Is it instant improvement or do you see results only after a few full ups of high octane?

 

It’s not instant but once the lower grade fuel is purged from the system it starts to act better

 

What @Sgt BadA said. You have to get rid of the lower octane fuel first. Usually after I go through maybe a quarter tank for so I start to notice improvements and after a tank or two all is well for mine.

 

And what is it doing with gas mileage if you don’t mind me asking? Is that improved too?

 

I'm a member of the premium only gang as well. MPG is not noticably different between the 2.

 

If I run it down to the low gas light and then switch fuels, it takes about 50 miles for the difference to show up. By a 100 miles, it's completely switched over. Every time, like clockwork.

 

So, this TSB solves all issues with 93 octane gase?

Sounds like the OVTUNE guys tipped them.

Which has me wondering... are the 2019’s shipping with this fix or not?

Yes, mine is improved off the premium fuel. Usually 1-1.5 mpg.
