Anyone have experience with insurance claims andaa modded truck? Will they only replace to oem? If I swap the grill or put a lift on it, what happens?

Don't worry, I haven't been in a wreck; just curious.

Typically you need to have receipts and present it them to insurance and a ryder will be added to the policy for the modifications done. Insurance premium will also go up.

Good to know. What about the other scenario where someone runs into me and I have to make a claim against their insurance?

Typically they are going to fight you on it... so your insurance will pay and go after the other parties insurance.

I just went through this scenario. I got about 2/3 value when my truck was totaled. most of my receipts were on my paypal account so they were easy to access. it did take a couple of weeks of negotiation to get to that point. also the adjuster tried to claim my truck didn't have some options until I scanned the window sticker and emailed that to them.

About 10 months ago GEICO replaced my Pelfrey front bumper without any hesitation. I showed the adjuster at the auto body shop the price of the bumper on the Pelfrey website (when they were still in business) on my phone and he just typed it onto his computer. When I got my policy I had no idea I was going to go this far down the rabbit hole with mods so there wasn’t anything special on my policy. E3F72B6D-30E6-41C2-B4CB-5DFE99BA541D.jpg

My experience (keep in mind I live in BC so this may be different where you are)

I totaled my 16 about 8 months ago. I had light bar, LED fog pods, Steel skid, sliders, tires, and suspension lift. I asked them if I could take what parts were salvageable and I was told only if I had the OEM parts still (I didn't as I sold them on craigs list). However, they did give me some money back for them. I provided all my receipts and they paid out close to 60% of their actual worth.

Now if the truck hadn't been a write off I am not sure what would have happened. I guess if I could direct them to where they could get the parts then maybe it would work?

Best to call your agent/broker and ask them. Varies from policy to policy even within the same carrier and is often in the fine print. With my Jeep "visual" mods were not covered in at fault/hit and run/solo accident but they would go after the other party if I not at fault. for me this was a windshield visor i put on but my agent explained it as like a spoiler on a minivan or after market roofracks. on our tacomas probably a bed rack, light bar or ditch lights fall into this category. No real function to vehicle operation. My custom one of a kind bumper was covered only in a not at fault accident. Solo accident/ hit and run/ im a fault and all I would get would be the cost of a replacement stock bumper since that was considered critical to vehicle operation (law requires a bumper). Same applied to my lift kit. Only would get value of stock components.
