Honestly, that would depend. On model, and options.

I was qouted about 1600 for new for that, without the rack rails(which I forgot to add).

My biggest issue, is I can't make up my damn mind . Biggest huddle with a hardshell is carrying the bike.

If I can get a used one for a deal, I can trim the side lip for an outboard motor, and not feel bad.

I know I am a being picky

 

Whoa where were you quoted 1600 for a cap with windoors? Cheapest I can find is ~2k after taxes.

 

Might be worth the drive if I can pay lower tax, but I bet that they would charge me NY tax and negate any savings. We have 8.75% sales tax here which sucks on a big purchase like this.

 

I would think its the tax in the state. Not like buying a vehicle from another state

 

The way it works with all sales is that if the company has a location that sells products in your state then they must charge you tax. This is why you see people from Ohio paying sales tax on tires from discount tire, or paying tax on armor if you live in CA. They have dealers in my state so I don’t think I can avoid it.

 

When I bought my Mobtown armor, I opted for picking it up at their shop in Maryland rather than shipping it to me in Philly. 2 hour drive.

If they shipped, no sales tax. If I pick up, sales tax.

 

That’s actually incorrect, they did not need to charge you sales tax if your not a resident of their state.

In NY this is how it works, it depends if the state your in is a destination based sales tax state or not.

 

For NY taxes and most states there has always been an option to voluntarily pay sales and use tax for out of state purchases, and no I have never had any clients actually pay this.
