This is how it's like in SF when it rains for the first time.

I always laugh when I see that picture. It's just pure chaos.

In other news, socal got another 2" of rain yesterday and today. Too bad all this rain didn't happen a month ago when the whole state was on fire

 

woof, have fun with that...I suspect there will be more than one accident on the 101 today with all this rain.

 

An easy way to tell if someone is from Northern California or Southern California is the way they describe freeways. Here, everyone refers to them with the name only. Like: "Oh take 880 up to 238, then continue onto 101."

In SoCal, people add "the" before the name. "The 405 was backed up today, but not as bad as the 101."

 

Believe me I know, I get reminded by all of my family back in Missouri every time we visit lol.

To me, it makes perfect sense...freeways are an object, a noun...we use the word "the" before describing most objects. 'Hey, look at the computer' or 'Can you show me where the shitter is at'

Leaving "the" out of the equation when referring to freeways sounds so odd to me. "Take 101 to 405"...wtf. No, it's 'take THE 101 to THE 405'

I think another thing is the naming schemes. 'The 405' sounds more natural than '405'. However, 'The 880' just sounds strange if you try to call it that in a conversation.

 

We just say "40" no "the" just the number.
