So I have a 2018 Tacoma trd pro, I was looking to do some paint correction, my understanding is that the previous generation Toyota super white cars only used a 1 stage paint. Does the newer version use a 2 stage with clear coat?

Pretty sure the 'solid colors' are single stage and the metallics/pearls are two stage. You will probably get a lot of answers both ways. I would recommend contacting a reputable body shop (find out which one your local dealer uses?) and ask.

    All colors are two stage.

Edit: I looked it up in the CCC estimating system.

    Yep,

...and if your idea of paint correction is to wet sand dust nibs, don't. Someone at the factory attempted sanding a couple of nibs out of the finish on my white 2018. The nibs were leveled but the finish now has a couple of smooth black dots.

you could honestly just wax it by hand its going to look the same as a tri stage cut and polish. white is boring to say the least to work with, it doesn't show oxidation and swirls nearly as much as other colors.

edit: by white I mean 040 in particular. lets leave the 4runners tri stage white out of this debate

Exactly. Clay the impurities and rust deposits, wash, polish. Done!

Super White still is only Single Stage paint. I have/had a letter from Toyota Corporate to prove it. this has been gone over on this forum many times. it has a mid clear mixed into the paint, but it isn't the same as spraying base coat then spraying a clear coat over it.

but Super White is easy to maintain. when mine starts showing fallout really badly I give it a good wash. then while the truck is still cool to the touch and wet I spray Adams Polishes fallout/iron remover all over it. let it dwell for 3-5 mins. while it dwells I mix up another clean bucket of car wash soap and get my Griots fine paint correction mit (basically a synthetic clay bar made into a wash mit). after the lil rust spots start to turn purple I just rewash the truck with the "clay mit" and then rinse it all off. all the fallout/iron spots are gone. dry it off and then use any polish you want. I always use a finishing sealer because my truck is daily driven. a sealer works better for vehicles that get driven a lot. wax is more for less driven/show vehicles.

by the way, we own 3 different colors of White vehicles. my wife's Lexus is Ultra White, our daughter's Cherokee Trailhawk is Pearl White and my Taco is Super White. I do wish my Super White had an actual clear coat on it though.

I am leveling out any swirls on the paint so the ceramic coat can bond easier with the paint and have a smoother surface

I did exactly this. Used Menzerna IP on an orange pad. On my 2014 it finished out just fine.
