Need Help - Installed DTRL - Now some things don't work

Hey Guys,

Hopefully you can help me out.

I just installed my DTRL and they work.

However, now my gauges and radio don't work

Other things that don't work
- Truck doesn't give the warning beep when I put into reverse (man. trany)
- No dash lights that indicate I am in 4H/4L
- Odometer numbers don't display

Did I really screw things up or did just blow a fuse?

UPDATE: Found the problem. One of the connectors that I removed to get more room to work wasn't connected properly. I gave it a push and it clicked.

 

it doesn't beep in reverse? you mean like a semi?

how did you do the mod? did you tap into the wires near all the fuses in the cab or just hotwire it next to the battery fuse box?

 

Sorry....let me clear.

What I meant by "beep in reverse" is that when I put the truck into reverse, there is a short "beep" that comes from the console. It's like a "hey moron, you're in reverse" warning beep.

I got the truck that way, it wasn't a mod.

 

oh ok lol

i'd go through and check your fuses, one of em may be blown. if you just hotwired the wires and ran a wire into the 3rd hole in your running lights then you can't mess anything up by doing that...if you did the whole fuse/relay deal then somethings probably just blown

 

i dont have that beep...

 

He has an 08 and yours is an 05 so more than likely it was something added by Toyota in that three year span.

 

I did the OEM fuse/relay thing...no hot wiring for me.

I'll start checking the fuses. I must admit, I forgot to disconnect the battery when I first started so I most likely blew something.

I'll give an update if I find anything.

 

So basically as far as I can tell, my gauges and radio doesn't work. I tested (with a multimeter) the 7.5A fuse that said gauge and it was good. I also swapped the gauge fuse with the other 7.5A fuse in the box and still have the same results.

I also tested both radio fuses in the box under the hood...they both tested good.

I guess I will be opening up the dash again to see if I missed something.

UPDATE: I'm an idiot

I opened everything up again and one of the connectors wasn't pushed in all the way.

Everything seems to be working again.

 

lol hooray! it's ok it happens, like i told someone a few days ago, when installing my HID kit i grounded the setup to plastic

 

JO, glad to see it worked out for you. I did mine a little while back and was a little uncertain myself pulling plastic and wires on my new truck, however, it worked out well except for scalping my index finger knuckle. Toughest part was getting the grey plug out, but finally got a screwdriver in there and it popped out slick.
