I've missed maybe 2 shifts in a year of driving this thing with a tiny bit of grinding, and I mean these were lazy, sloppy shifts that I felt in retrospect deserved a little grind. The syncros in this thing seem highly effective to me. I've no clutch shifted up and down the range with no grinding.

Something wrong with your syncros, bro?

Standard reply for me given everyone says ‘I’ve driven MT, but why ismy clutch burning’ in these types of threads. When I read gears grinding, well.. you see where I’m going with it :hattip:

Take your truck in to a different dealer and tell them that the other can’t drive a manual to replicate, and hope they don’t say it’s wear and tear.

That's easy. Just tell the new dealer that it was the old dealer doing all the wear and tear.

You aren’t alone OP. I have driven manual transmissions for years and this Tacoma’s reverse gear is way too high. I’ve never burned a clutch before, but I backed a trailer up a slight incline with this truck and thought a skunk exploded next to me.

Fortunately my wife has gx460 with an automatic V8. So if I need to tow, I use that. But if my livelihood depended on towing and maneuvering a sizable trailer with my Tacoma, it would be a deal breaker.

Also I get 15-16MPGs on average, but I’m fine with that. It’s a truck not a Prius.

    Long live the manuals!

It clunks on all of them before the TSB/OvTune... & accumulator delete...

Or so I have been told... haven't gotten around to any of these solutions yet

My manual transmission had the same problem as all my other manual transmissions. It was a manual transmission clunky hard to use and basically an all-around pain in traffic. I fixed my manual tranny by getting my next Tacoma with an automatic transmission. It’s awesome.
