What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Not sure how I can do that unless I pull the transmission. The video attached shows the noise. It does it sitting still or when I engage the clutch to stop at a traffic light

Didn’t realize they made OEM trans coolers.

 

If the noise only occurs when your foot is on the clutch pedal mashed to the floor , you have yourself a faulty pilot bearing .

 

I know pretty crazy, I got it for $35 off craigslist. And our radiator already had a trans cooler, this is another cooler it goes through after the radiator and then back to the trans, basically gets cooled twice.

 

That is the only time I have the issue.
It seemed to be ok when I had it apart last week but I guess I will pull it apart again.
You think it will be ok to drive it,

 

Oh yeah I know. I didn’t know there was a TRD external version. I might see if I can order one still.

I’m a sucker for OEM parts.

 

I have seen pilot bearings completely missing and guys manage to get home .
I am not making the call for you though .

 

Yeah I like oem stuff too. Hey how much did you get your 5 lug for? Looking for the same thing you got.

 

Yeah I know, When I put the clutch in it all that was left of the pilot bearing was the outer race, was hard getting it out.
Guess I will pull it apart again

Symptoms of a bent input shaft . You got a diali indicator ? Check for run out by spinning the shaft . Those bearings should last longer than the clutch . Are both dowel pins in the engine block ? Bell housing run out ? A few things to check etc etc

 

Dang, did you get it at auction or a private seller

 

Yeah both dowels are in, not sure it would be bell housing run out either. I replaced the clutch about a year ago and the problem started about two weeks ago thats why I pulled the transmission last week and changed the throw out bearing and checked the input shaft for play and the pilot bearing felt ok too.
Thanks for your help, I guess I will take it back out and recheck or replace, should have replaced the pilot bearing while the transmission was out

 

Craigslist, guy just wanted to get rid of it. I used a Bill of Sale to legally register it in Vermont.

He has a double cab 1st gen with 1 ton axles front and rear,, front has a 3 link set up and the rear has Chevy 63’s and running 40s

 

that sounds aggressive... I like it!
