So after contacting toyota I found out that all the new trucks come with corosion resistant steel, an anti corosion treatment, some sort of spray wax sealent and some anti chip paint or something from the factory. And theres a 5yr warranty on the frame from date of purchase. So im pretty satisfied with that, ill just make sure to rinse the undercarraige as often as possible during the winter months

Shit! I musta got ripped off! Rust everywhere in the 1st year!

Truth is, if you drive off road, the gravel kicked up by your tires will abrade all of Toyota’s fancy coatings away. This occurs for me on all the leading (forward facing) edges of the frame.

I clean the affected areas with brake clean, lightly sand, and then paint them again with black rust paint. Afterwards, I hit all the nooks and crannies with Fluid Film.

My lesson: do not ignore your 3rd Gen frame and leave it to Toyota’s sales pitch. What they have done to protect the frame is only applicable in ideal conditions, and is quickly compromised if you use your truck at all in the back country.

I had the dealer undercoat my Taco -- including treatment of inside and outside of the frame. That way, I avoid any issues if the frame fails. It also make the truck quieter.

Yeah. I bought a kit with the pro sprayer and the long wands. It came with a gallon and a little spray can. I used the entire spray can inside the doors (pulled all panels off for speakers anyway) and half a gallon under the truck. The problem I see with a Fluid Film, I took a 40 mile round trip in the rain, anything that got spray from the wheels washed right off. That’s why you have to reapply it every year. I just got some Noduxol 300 which dries to a waxy film to use on those areas.

8+ cans? you are full of shit. Did you ever consider that you don’t need an inch thick film of product to achieve protection? 4 cans is plenty sufficient.

I had my inground pool filled with fluid film. Every fall I rent a crane and dip my entire truck. on a serious note. 4 cans did my entire truck. Next summer I will be buying the pro gun and a gallon with wands

Lol ok bud, if you say so. Been doing this for 18 years on the east coast and I can guarantee that 4 cans will not treat your entire truck. But arguing with a....... would make me a..... also. Have a good day

Maybe we view "entire truck" very differently. 4 cans will lightly do your frame rails. (4 sides to most sections and 3 side near the rear) don't forget the inside of all frame rails, cross members, rad support, inside of doors, rocker panels, tailgate, hood, box sides, front fenders, skids, rear axels, drive shaft, control arms, front fender wells, leaf springs, and the entire floor. If 4 cans will sufficiently cover all these areas than maybe you guys have much much larger cans of fluid film south of the border.......

I really didnt like the smell of the Fluid Film type products or that they were oily or sticky. Went with Cavity Wax, no smell and it dries enough that you can work on things without getting it all over you.

Just had my truck fluid filmed again today... Took a look at the frame while it was on the lift, not a spec of rust anywhere, looked brand new. I'm used to my frames having a good amount of surface rust within the first year, so I'm incredibly satisfied with fluid film.

It's good stuff and as long as you keep it done annually you'll be rust free for many years
