    Hey everyone,

I’m new to TW, just bought a 2019 TRD off-road DCSB a little over a month ago. So far I’m loving it but have already found myself wanting to do some mods.

I’m thinking about changing out the muffler. I’m hoping to get as close as possible to that nice v8 sound. I doubt I can actually get all the way there, but I want a low rumble that will put a smile on my face when I put the pedal down. I’m not looking to wake up everyone within a mile radius of me and I’m trying to avoid drone (that can’t be drown out with the radio) or a ricer type sound.

Been looking at the MBRP catback mostly because it’s inexpensive, easy to install, and I like the sound I’ve heard on YouTube. It’s hard to tell what real world results will sound like though so I’m looking for some input from people that have the MBRP on their trucks, or anyone who has a suggestion that would fit what I’m looking for. Doesn’t necessarily need to be inexpensive or simple.

Finally any opinions on doing a cold air intake as well? Would that be worth it and help me achieve what I’m looking for?

Best advice I can give is to try not to inhale too much of it.

I am in the same boat as you looking for a new muffler. As GOTSAND?18 mentions, you will not come close to the V8 sound but you can get a nice throaty sound out of it with the right muffler. I'm looking at the Flowmaster Super 40 or Super 44. I like the drone :) Unfortunately, I have not found too many clips for a 2019. Also need to go to the shop to see if I need an offset or both center in and out. When I get under the truck I see the pipes look straight and not off centered.

OP the MBRP has a reputation of being very loud in the cab. i don't know i haven't tried it.

the TRD catback is probably just what you're looking for. it's not great on performance but the sound is good and we MT drivers can use the sound to help hear what's going on.

i removed the TRD catback from my truck and it's cut up in pieces but anyone can come grab it from me for free, muffler included.

i have a custom exhaust all the way and it's expensive and a performer but doesn't sound like that's what you're looking for, so keeping it cheap should be easy.

So, on my 17 Tacoma, I had a Flowmaster 40... Don't do it. Sounds good below 3k, over 3k it's very tinny and sounds like shit.

On my 18, I have the Magnaflow Stainless, and it sounds amazing through the whole Rev range. Very smooth, deep sound. I get compliments non stop on the sound. I tried to get a video of the sound the other day, but wind noise killed it and it sounded nothing like it actually does. I'll make another attempt at it when I get a chance.

I had a Magnaflow on my 3.5 Charger and sounded great. Did you have the 40 or Super 40? The Super 40 has a deeper sound but still leaning towards the Super44. I will wait to hear your clip when you get to it. Thanks :)

I installed the MBRP one sided cutback about a week ago and I'm very satisfied with it

I had just the 40. My issue with Flowmaster I've noticed over the years, is they need a bigger engine to support them sounding good. Anything like a high Rev V6, or 4 cyl, they sound terrible. This Magnaflow is amazing. I'll give the video another shot shortly and see what I can come up with.

No, just get the K&N filter for your stock intake. I went with the cabin filter too and they work hella better than the stock ones do.

Cold air intake isn't worth it. Our trucks come with it stock. TRD Intake will give more sound, but that's it

That's close to the sound. Not as deep as mine sounds, but close. Hard to get the actual tone through recording it. My surround sound downstairs sounds perfect, my phone makes it sound like a Honda civic.
