Too bad the case I want is like $1400... One day. I may seriously consider investing in to one after the holidays. I really want to start shooting in the water with my friends surfing.

Not my greatest work, but I don't foresee myself getting out again the rest of the week for a sunset shot, so the above will have to do. I blame the rain for rushing me.

Outstanding, and well said and done!

The last survivor, and surviving officer, of the USS Arizona was LCDR Joseph Langdell. I took the USS Coral Sea around the world with his son John in 1983. John and I get together each year with a couple of other retired Navy guys to hunt pheasant in SD for a couple of weeks starting in the beginning of November.

The last Dec. 7th memorial service his father was able to make was in 2008. His eyes still said it all even at the age of 94.

He wanted to live to be 100 and he did, passed away 3 years ago. He wanted to be interned with his men and was.

In the late 70's I spent a couple of months going by the Arizona Memorial everyday in a launch. Was tasked with a small crew of misfits that were waiting to be discharged from the Navy to go to the degaussing range. They would wrap heavy cables around the ships and we would connect them to a generator to erase the magnetic signature the steel hull picks up from friction against the sea. Which triggers magnetic mines.

The misfits were mouthy and belligerent, took a heavy hand to keep them in check. Until we would go by the Arizona Memorial. They would stare at it and then look down at the deck of the launch and be silent. It moved even them. Most of them seemed to realize that much better men than they had gone before them, and sacrificed.

A man who worked at my company
“Old Man Bobby”was at Hickman airfield and rushed to help as did many others. Sadly he passed several years ago and we got money together and planted a tree in his honor. The greatest generation is a understatement. This man was in his 80’s using his skills building crates we used to ship our items that we repaired. He lived aviation and talked tge owners to let him stay on. He just lived to work. He also had a potty mouth! Ha...he fit right in! He told better “your Mama jokes”, then you can ever imagine. It was even funnier when you see this almost 90 yr old man telling it. We miss that guy. He never bitched/whined that he was tired or sore. Just worked his ass off. I tried to help him but he was bullheaded and just would say ...kid I tossed steel sledges pounding rivets.
I took a few photos at the gates 4547D171-9969-4A1A-A1D3-C09BCF61EBA0.jpg of Hickman. Lucky for me during my visit my step son was active duty and I drove on to Ford island. What a special treat for me. I was driving all over and he kept saying we shouldn’t be here I might get in trouble. I told him they would post signs “no entry “ or others. One of the coolest days I’ve ever had . Saw the hospital and a park that was used in tge movie. The hangars F5293920-A3AD-4D81-B957-46BEBD26A2AD.jpg with glass panes broke by bullets.1910C2E7-C495-4BB7-82D1-8E366AE5B31E.jpg
Which is now the Museum. Amazing items of historical significance I saw with my own eyes not just in text books or movies. A truly moving experience.
