My pop n lock is acting up and they’re asking me for proof of purchase. I bought it off craigslist.

Would someone be kind enough to PM me a copy of their reciept/invoice so that I can get some help from Pop and Lock.

    Thanks in advance

So you'd like someone to help you scam a company into providing a service that you aren't supposed to get? Pretty sure providing false documentation/receipts is called "fraud."

Take apart your tailgate, check all connections, clean all moving parts, and then apply ample amounts of grease on them, and I'll bet your "acting up" will be solved. I don't even need your proof of purchase.

This is called "Fraud" mate. No ones going to touch that with a 50 foot pole.

I was about to offer the same advice. I did the above and it's working like a dream now. Only took about 20 minutes.

How is that fraud? They made the product and should stand behind it. A piece of paper does not make it legit. It would be one thing if the guy was trying to pass off a knock off, but getting support for their product should be the least they could do. If I had one, I would send it.

Lets say OP bought his lock for $30, but he bought it broken. He then tries to get someone elses receipt to replace it and the company replaces the entire part which costs substantially more. That's personal/financial gain.

    fraud
    /frôd/
    noun
    1. wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.

Usually warranties are only extended to the original purchaser, thus requiring original purchase receipt.

Not exactly wrongful deception if the product is defective. You could apply the same rationale to the manufacturer. It isn't like the guy is saying the purposely damaged it and is trying to get over on them. They won't talk to him because he doesn't have a piece of paper.

    Because it's the retailers policy...

Trying to circumvent that is considered fraud.

Forget it. I’ll try and fix it myself or buy a new one. Just trying not to pay for the same product twice. FML.

Just something to consider next time buying anything mechanical that you want covered. But as the above posts suggests, I'm sure you can fix it with a little TLC.

So you let Manufacturers dictate to you? If I buy something and it breaks because it is defective, I expect it fixed. I'm not a fan of letting them get over on me because of a technicality. Just because I lost a piece of paper, shouldn't mean that they absolve themselves from responsibility. I went through something similar to this with Samsung. They were going to honor my warranty on my refrigerator without a receipt. It had a 10 year warranty and they could tell by the date of manufacture that it was 4 years old. Not to mention the model had only been out 10 years. I found the receipt that had faded as cash register paper tends to do over time and they still tried to deny the claim. I'm sorry, but I'm not agreeing with your thought that this is fraud because the OP isn't following the rules made up by the company that made the product.

Yet another reason product cost continue to rise... some people don’t understand warranty registration, nor the phrases “limited warranty” and “original owner”.

So the answer is that costs will decrease if we let manufacturers offer substandard products, but get out of standing behind them because of their dictated technicalities? That makes zero sense.
