Detroit Turtrac is a limited slip there is a big difference in a limited slip and a locker. The trutrac is a more robust and better than the typical cone or clutch style LS as it has a greater powertransfer and differential. It's somewhat of an inbetween for a true locker and limited slip so to speak.

Here is a good article on them straight from Eaton.

No problem. Plus going with anything that replaces the differential itself you'll have to re set up the gears so that the mesh is correct.

Gotcha, yeah im going to have a TW member help me set it up. he's done one on his truck, as well as a couple other member's trucks with the trutrac. Cant wait to see how much more traction there is. Should be perfect for my little street truck

Yeah those would be great for a mostly st truck that wants more performance offroad than a normal LS but doesn't want the clacking of a locker on the st. It's all trade-offs. You'll get a little less performance offroad with it but better on road manners.

That was my main motive for going with it. My truck never sees offroad except for the dirt road i drive on to get home. From everything i've heard, they are very smooth and don't have any clunking or tire chirping during turns and while driving on road. Just want to be able to put more power to the ground. Going to put in some 4.10s out of my 4cylinder while i'm at it. That paired with the supercharger should make it really fun to drive! :D

Based on the article you posted, looks like they're better than a limited slip in that you dont have to worry about clutch packs wearing out either!

Yes that is correct and get more transfer of torque to the wheel with traction than the normal cone or clutch style limited slip.

I am a fan of Detroit and Eaton. We have a few big Eaton plants here in NC they provide a lot of manufacturing jobs for us here. They don't do any of the really cool stuff like superchargers or lockers or anything but do some of the electronics and stuff in cars.

Interesting, i didnt know they also did electronics and stuff for cars. Any idea where all the lockers and stuff are manufactured? also curious what kind of traction aid you run in your truck?

Skinny pedal, speed, and momentum!!!! I'm going to go with a lunchbox for the rear and an ARB for the front. I'm looking at putting the Tundy 10.5' rear under my truck and that is limited to only an ARB for locker choices. I wheel a lot and hard. I also move a lot of livestock around and am in some mucky pastures so having a true locker is best for my scenario.

Nice, are those the same width as the tacoma rear axle? or are they wider? I have an ARB in my prerunner, and i love it, cant go wrong with that, especially if you wheel alot. The added bonus of having on board air really comes in handy. I dont wheel much, but it has saved my ass several times. Just didnt want to run all that wiring and air lines again on this truck, so went with something more simple

No wider by a few inches. I'm swapping to 63" rear leafs and 14"travel shocks soon so this rear will space the wheels out more for shock clearance and with a 10.5" ring gear large dia. axles and 35 splines they are pretty much bullet proof out the gate.

Hell yes, that should be beeef! You going to do anything to the front to match it up with the width of the rear axle? I see a long travel setup or SAS in your future.. :D
