Day in and out you read about unrealistic expectations of people and their dealerships and the resulting comments come out of the woodwork about “stealerships” and the like.

Today like every year my salesman calls me around the time of the anniversary of my Tacoma purchase. Checks in to make sure everything is going well and wishes my family and I a Merry Christmas. To be honest I have nothing but good things to say about them. I can go in with an issue and speak to the GM and anything that I need will be addressed. I am fair and reasonable with them and I recieve that in return.

I thought it was important to counter the impression that some have that all dealerships “are the worst”. I have a great relationship and hope that the more reasonable persons on this forum have experienced the same with their dealership.

    Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays.

Yeah, the people at the dealership where I bought my Taco also seem pretty good.

Dealerships are businesses, trying to turn a profit, and employing lots of people who are, for the most part, trying to put food on the table.

Good to hear something positive, instead of the usual horror stories.

A simple call like that made you go on a forum and basically put out an ad for them. I’m not saying the Christmas wishes weren’t genuine, but it is part of their marketing.

It reminds me of that study where if you’re at a restaurant and they give you free peppermints, your tip percentage goes up by about 5-20%.

Edit: this wasn’t supposed to be a negative dickhead post. Sorry if you read it that way. It was just an observation. Peace.

It’s nice he did that. It kinda just means he isn’t lazy and he read that book written by that epic car dealer back in the 70’s or whatever. When you make an effort like that, you sell.

I don't see the name of the dealership in his post (unless I'm missing it or he removed it later). How is that advertising for them? I know it's incredibly hard to believe, but some organizations do put effort into their customer service because they want repeat business. Any marketing that comes from that is a byproduct of quality service.

Great to see a positive experience. I've also had good experiences with my Toyota dealer. No service done yet, but the sales process was smooth and they put in the effort to get me exactly what I was looking for.

I've had good and bad experiences at both dealerships and independent shops. I've found that there are shady folks in both pools.

Like I said, I didn’t doubt if it was sincere or not, and I’m not doubting organizations put effort into customer service nor am I saying that they shouldn’t.

I have been reading how radio stations are cutting Christmas classics from their playlists because some assholes are doing everything possible to find anything negative they can ban for any multitude of reasons. Here’s my challenge to all of you dickheads who like to shit on everything you touch. Wake up with the goal of finding something positive in each and every situation no matter what. Car accident. Be thankful both you and the other driver are ok. Lose your job. Be thankful for the good times and the chance to find a better job.

My great aunt used to say you will find whatever you are looking for in life. Look for the negative and you will find it. Look for the positives and it will be found in those same situations. Right now I know some of you are wondering where this post came from. I created a thread about positivity to counter the negatives we read post after post here on TW. Barely into the double digits of reply and someone had to split hairs and argue about shit that doesn’t matter and turn things sour.

The world is spending every waking moment focusing on the shit in every situation. Bitching. Complaining. Looking for something negative to talk about. Yesterday I was at a store and a woman couldn’t find an employee to help. I took 30 seconds to help her understand the difference between 3 hacksaw blades and help her choose what tooth was right for her needs. I might as well have gave her $50 based on her appreciation. All because someone took 30 seconds to do something positive. It is a lost art and I find myself guilty of focusing on the negative and have to give myself shit at times.

This thread was about being positive. If that isn’t something you are capable of then move on to any one of thousands of threads here on TW.
    Happy Holidays.

The dealership I bought my new RCf from, sends me a hand written birthday card (salesman does). He has been there 19 years. Of all the cars I buy, usually I get email standard bday card or anniversary of car.

This salesman sends a hand written card for my bday and one for the anniversary of the car. Car anniversary he follows up with “how’s the car doing and keep me in mind for next car.” Initially I was thinking it’s annoying

But I notice when he sends an email, I always go to their website and see their inventory. So their advertising is working . Additionally, now that I am ready to go from RCF to GSF, I will give him an opportunity to earn my business.

Oh man, I’m totally with you. I’m super pumped almost all the time. But you gotta know...the world is brutal. You have to be able to accept that it is. And that it’s gonna creep into everything, including your thread. The next best step in being positive, is understanding what you’re up against, instead of asking it to go someplace else, which it will never do, because it owes you nothing.

    Good practice on both sides.

    Agreed.

And the workers are well managed. I don't mean micro managed, I mean well managed. The stars are polished, the workhorses fed and the chaff is cut. The biggest issue I've found is with big box (conglomerate?) dealers that own a bazillion stores. Which is the way of the world in many larger areas. I also have found that a dealer in rural areas or ones with only one or two outlets in an urban area often have a better team. Likely because the owners are more involved, and the various team leads are well chosen.

Well clearly you are a repeat customer. The more you buy the more perks you get. ;)
