    Okay...trying to imagine not having an input shaft and coming up short there. Not saying you're wrong, just that I can't picture it. I do know on my YJ and my '90 FS Bronco the clutch slave was around the input shaft so had no fork, which I hated with an incredible intensity, especially since both of them failed and having to drop the tranny to replace the clutch slave effin' sucks. Can't remember if the TOB floated or was part of the slave.

    It's really not difficult, I was most freaked out about aligning my disc with the tool and getting the input shaft to mate with it and the pilot bearing, looking back I made it 10x worse overthinking it all.

    It's no worse than most of the stuff you have done to your rig already.

    Has an input shaft, just not a independent one, the imput shaft actually has the gearing on it vs the imput shaft turning the geared shafts.

    Reduction in moving parts increasing efficiency.

    I'm gonna give it a shot when I have all the parts. I just don't think doing it in my driveway is feasible due to slope and shitty pavers and fucking ants.

    Oh yesh, ants and slopes make everything more fun.

    I did the one on my '00 myself, in a parking lot across the street from my apartment complex at the time with more or less pretty basic handtools and a leaky transmission jack I rented from some seedy tool rental place on 50 as nobody else had one and I needed to do it.

    If I can do it you can too!

    Only real hang-up I had was the guides and even the FSM kept referring to the "rear end plate" but NOTHING had pictures video or anything say what it was, as it turns out after fighting to get the trans pulled back from the engine for two hours the rear end plate is a 1/8" steel plate with 4 M6 bolts going into the bell housing that does nothing more than seal the bell housing bottom from debris and in my case grab the back off the fly and prevent everything from coming apart like it's supposed to.

    Got a nast scar on my left ring finger from a prybar that slipped while trying to push them appart all the while fighting that trans jack leaking down.

    Good times.

    Fortunately 2nd and 3rd gens don't have a rear end plate, they do have more clearance though so generally a much easier job.

    Really the clutch and flywheel aren't hard. Make sure you've got a torque wrench (or torque adapter like I'm getting for X-mas) though. As you know, I just did my TOB. The worst part is separating the engine from the trans and mating them back together. Both times I had to do it, it was a real PITA, although when I put it back in after I replaced the clutch, I had help which made it go much more quickly and smoother than when I did it by myself this time.

    Pavers, slopes, and ants, would be a nogo for me. I'd definitely find someone with a nice level concrete driveway *cough*Todd*cough*(which probably means I'd have to return his trans jack sooner rather than later, haha.)

    Oh yeah, duh, torque wrenches too, I have them but yes very important so much so I overlooked them as it's just standard to me to have my torque wrenches around like having a 10mm.

    Back then thought (6+ years?) I was still very new and hand only the most basic mechanic tools, now I have a full compliment and air tools welder all 9 yards.

    Work was kind enough to let me borrow torque wrenches for the weekend back then.

    I don't think I've ever seen a disc that didn't come with one, I have like 5 just chilling in my garage now from various jobs over the years.

    Yup, most clutch kits come with them. Dunno about just the disc, since I've never done just the disc without doing the pressure plate and TOB as well. Back in the day you had to get them separately so I have a metal universal one that supposedly worked better than the plastic ones, but I did have problems with either type.


    Haha, yeah that's like a torque wrench, almost goes without saying. And Anti-seize if you have to remove any exhaust bolts.

    Still off it. Need to recheck the wiring and tune on Saturday. The throttle wasn't working properly so I unplugged the piggyback and reused the old belt

    Nope. First I've seen of it. I'm waffling about whether I want a snorkel or not. Where the factory snorkel is, I would have to be in water damn near to my door handles to submerge it, and while Citrus can get dusty, it's not that bad. If I do one it's going to be a home-brewed version. Maybe get an exhaust shop to bend me up a 3" pipe and clamp a PVC elbow to the top of it, haha.

    I'm also waffling about whether I was to just go ahead and put that open front diff I got from Todd in the OGT, or wait until I'm ready to send everything to ECGS for the regear. Right now, I'm leaning towards getting it over with.
