So I never sold any pistols before. I kept them all. If I wanted to thin the herd and found a buyer I don’t personally know. Then what? Is it recommended to go through a FFl ? I understand about state laws, but what if my state doesn’t require I use a FFL?

What have you done with a sale where you didn’t know the person?

Also, all my pistols have been run through a FFL. Does that mean that gun is specifically connected to me by my name and address or does it just mean it’s not stolen?

I don’t want to sell to someone that commits a crime, and the gun gets traced back to me.

    And thanks? Fire away.

And I’m sorry if I asked this before.

    1) Check the laws in your state.
    2) Some states keep databases of firearm purchases via background checks.
    3) Use common sense.

You can have the buyer fill out of a bill of sale so you have a record of the sale if it makes you more comfortable. Otherwise just meet in a public place, exchange the gun and cash and be on your way if that’s legal in your state.

There’s no legal consequence to selling a firearm and that firearm later being used in a crime unless you knowingly sold to a prohibited person.

Regardless of laws, do the right thing - always go through FFL.

For the main reason of making sure that the buyer is legally able to own a firearm.

I'm in FL we are allowed to buy/sell firearms , what I have done in the past is print a firearm bill of sale , make sure that the bill of sales states that the purchaser is legally allowed to own a firearm and he will be purchasing for its own use, then get a copy of hes drivers license and or concealed permit.
What I do now is I only sell or buy firearms from concealed permit holders only.

I like that. I’m just going to meet at a FFl and do it right.

Most places will charge a small fee for the transfer. Usually the buyer pays that.

I believe some of the commie states require you go through an FFL for private sales, not sure since my state hasn't gone commie yet. Regardless if I didn't know the person I would personally use an FFL. Wouldn't want to sale too some crackhead that goes out and shoots somebody with the pistol I sold them.

There’s nothing wrong with private sales, it just depends on your comfort level. The federal paperwork you fill out at a FFL never leaves the shop and the government never knows what you bought.

There is some sound advice here. My private sale was done with a bill of sale, but the seller knew me. What do you have to sell? I may be interested!

I’m still haven’t decided exactly the ones I will let go at the moment. Most are revolvers, one of them is a S&W K-22 Masterpiece. Only 1067 were made. I also have S &W Military and police 38 special, nickel.
Ruger 357 mag. 3 screw old model. and about a dozen others.

Unless law enforcement has a reason to run a trace at which point the FFL has to turn over the information

FFL holders must retain said records for 20 years

Exactly right, as long as you follow your state guidelines for private sales and use common sense you are doing it right, rest assure, going thru an FFL is really unnecessary.
Again as long as the buyer have current concealed permit is good enough for my peace of mind.
