Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
+1 for use of debauchery. +2 for doing it in a very dry state. Used to be you had to get a license to drink in UT as a visitor. I have an old one somewhere...

Thanks! I do my best to politely horrify my...um...by the book...neighbors.

Like listening to rap music whilst angle grinding something on a Sunday morning (reasonable volume at a reasonable hour...I'm not a complete jackass)

I've heard stories about the old "clubs" loophole and the visitor cards and stuff. Its a beautiful place, but there are some odd customs. Especially having moved here from LA, it is a very different area.

Because someone asked me about my first aid bag today:

    First Aid

I keep this in the back passenger side seat pretty much all the time. Between guns, mountain bikes, skiing, etc somebody's bound to get hurt sometime. Cost me less than the ready made kits and much better. I operate on the principle that IFAK / Med Kits are to treat ME. I figure a little extra effort is gonna pay off if a friend ever has to start reaching for chest seals & CATs...

Biggest thing I can possibly advocate is EDUCATE YOURSELF. Learn how to use the things you carry. I see people that carry chest decompression needles that I don't trust with an ace bandage. I'm not saying to go get an EMT cert (unless you want to) but a basic cpr / first aid course goes a long ways. I had the chance to take a cheap and relatively quick WFA course that focused more on first aid out in the backcountry, and it had a lot of good advice. What if someone has an allergic reaction, and you are 4 hours from a hospital? I'll give you a hint: that epipen isn't gonna work like in the movies.

Only really had to use it once during an MVA in So Cal last year, plus doing minor trailhead surgery after a friend OTB'd big time in Park City.

Big bleeder / penetrating stuff on the front along with chemlight + IR strobe:

Front pouch carries my quick grab stuff that I don't wanna open the pack for: CPR Mask, Boo-boo / Ouch Kit, gloves, notepad, TCCC cards
    [IMG]

In the main compartment: less urgent med supplies: light, safety pin, tape, shears, gauze, irrigation, hot/cold treatment kits, and splints big and small with vet wrap.
Grey pouch is an IV bag pouch turned into a hypothermia grab bag. 2x Space blankets, handwarmers, tape. Lastly some light reading / references JIC.

    Nice kit.

I also carry 2 epi pens. Fortunately, I have never had to use one in the backcountry.

I carry an expired one now. I read from several credible sources that even the out of date ones are >75%ish effective compared to a fresh one for a good while after the expiration date.

So our curriculum taught that once you dose someone with an epipen, youre still going to a hospital. In the city, thats relatively easy, but in the backcountry, it's a problem because the major dose of epinephrin is gonna wear off in 30 mins to an hour. The instructors recommended that you hit the patient with the pen, and then immediately after they are functional again, chase it with a max dose of diphenhydramine (aka Benadryl). That will metabolise and take effect about the same time that the initial epipen dose wears off.

    Merry Christmas to me!

Got myself a vinyl cutter for something to keep me entertained and off facebook, etc.

Once you send a project to the machine, its pretty mesmerizing to watch do its thing. Reminds me of my days of working in a CNC/machine shop.

Gonna need a project table now.

I don't go anywhere without my NOCO. I can't believe how often I use it and how much easier it is to use the dragging out the cables.

We did Rattlesnake at 5 mile pass. Good wheeling route for truck types. Takes you up to a bunch of old mine shafts and tailings. The one in the pic was ~750 feet deep with a rebar grate over it. We forgot to take pics on the trail cuz we were kinda busy, but here's some. Most of the mud was on the way down to the road since the sun started melting all the frozen ground and at the trailhead because we were mobbing the mud puddles. :anonymous:

Got a patch for the roof. Not super into collecting, but have a few with meaning/stories behind them.

Map of where my tacoma and I have been. Sans truck, I have been to 49/50.

I've also passed the sign tagged going to Big Bear.
