Quiet muffler / exhaust system for 3rd Gen

Hi everyone,
I did a search without success..
I was trying to find recommendations on a QUIET aftermarket muffler or exhaust system, that that lets the 3.5L breathe a better.
I had purchased the Magnaflow system a year back, but it was way to loud for me, so it was off the truck within a few days and made its way to another TW member.

Current mufflers under consideration would be:
- Magnaflow 24"
- Flowmaster 70 Series

Can I stay with the stock pipes or do I have to invest in new tubing as well?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Maybe some members already have previous experience.

I have the TRD cat back exhaust and am very pleased with the sound and responsiveness. I have a neighbor with some kind of exhaust that wakes up the entire neighborhood every time he starts it up and that was not for me. The TRD has a nice growl on start up and hard acceleration but it is completely quiet at cruise speeds with zero drone. It was also a simple install that bolts up to the stock y-pipe. Hope this helps.

 

Man, great topic!

Pulling a trailer in 5th runs me at 2800 rpm @ 70mph. It pulls GREAT but the sound of that clatter really gets annoying.

If quiet is the goal, I'd be looking at resonators.

 

Anyone seen the aero turbine mufflers on a 3rd gen?

 

For either of those id also add in a Vibrant ultra quiet resonator too, they flow great and really cut down the frequencies those mufflers tend to miss. My cruiser drones like a SOB with a Magnaflow 18" but with a vibrant ultra quiet it is still the tone I like with none of the drone.

 

Don’t some mufflers come with resonators already? The 2525xl claims to have a built in resonator with no drone

 

Could someone Fischer Price up a quick explanation about these resonators...have a 99 4Runner that I put on a Magnaflow. Bad drone at 55mph. Don't want to eat the cost of the Mag

That's totally common no worries. The resonators are just strategic packing like a muffler that are effective at cleaning up various sounds and in some desgins amplifying others too. The ulrta quiet removes rasp and drop pretty effectively at the cost of some volume of the rest of the exhaust sound.

 

So adding to an existing configuration is doable? Rough price point?

 

The resonators cost anywhere from $25 to $125 usually depending on quality and style. You can usually have them cut and welded into a straight portion of your exhaust stream either upstream or downstream of a muffler for under $50

Is bringing a dead thread back to life a thing around here? I’m gonna try it.

I am trying to make my 2017 taco as quiet as possible. I run two sets of rims, some highway tires and then some all terrain tires for when it gets muddy on the weekends around here. That helps. I also want to work on the door insulation.

My Question;
I want to put this resonator on my exhaust, but I don’t see where I can get it welded in at? The back exhaust is all twisty and turney. Do I just take it to a shop and see if they can wedge it on somewhere?

Just run stock

 

Well I added the baby muffler "resonator" in front of the muffler. It pretty much eliminated all exhaust noise and the main sound comes from the engine now. I plan on doing the same thing to my other Tacoma.
