Uh, hmm. Well I guess I always have lots of stuff since it is only used for wheeling anymore. I guess I'll say spare alternator.

I have something along the lines of what you referred to as a "go bag". However I refer to it as a "Ditch Kit". For when you are either wrecked in the Ditch, or stuck. Or I suppose it could also be used to "Ditch" the truck.

I keep some basic things in my Kit.

    2way radios
    Flashlight
    Windup radio
    First aid kit
    Emergency blankets
    All weather Tent&Sleeping bags.
    Binoculars
    Signal flares/road flares
    Foldable hazard triangles
Mini air compressor(in truck but not in kit)
    Flint&lint
    Compass
    Pad&paper
Window marker to leave message on ditched truck if needed.
    Paracord
    Fire extinguisher

Thats everything I keep in the truck. I may have forgotten an item or so but you get the jist.

I think it depends where you live.

I used to be all 'prepared' with a go bag etc. then really started considering it etc and after working with people who have actually lived through some shit in other countries whether it be civil wars, or just chaos breaking out. One thing they all said the same you cannot prepare for it regardless of what you think.

Unless you are constantly carrying that backpack with you its borderline useless. Even this whole 'escape plan' that so many often have. At least in city centres its not going to happen. They all said the same thing when shit does hit the fan its what you have on you and wherever you are. This idea that you'll get to your car then drive out of there is not going to work. Roads will be completely gridlocked or dangerous. Your only chance is just hunkering down where you are.

So with that I don't carry this 'bug out bag' with 3 days food/water
    fire starting
survival gear whatever the fuck you want to call it.

So if anything I just carry more of a if its a shitty day thing. and then my basic EDC.
So on me is always knife, flashlight, keys, wallet with cash and cellphone
and I often have a water bottle with me.

in the truck centre console I always have:
    multi tool
    one of those power packs
    spare flashlight
    headlamp
    $100 cash backup
    pen and notepad
    hand sanitizer/wet wipes

on the sun visor hangs one of those glass breaker/seat belt cutter things

    under the back seats:
-good assortment of tools, this never leaves because its also my tools for trails. I dont take it in and out if I am on the trails its just always in there. mix of sockets, ratchets, pliers etc. actually a pretty good amount of tools, outside specialty tools you can do most basic repairs with it if you have the parts, and I always have a spare serpentine belt and air filter on board. 35mm socket is only carried on trail cause i really dont see breaking a CV on the roads nor would it be a huge issue as I can still drive it home.
    -Noco GB40 booster pack
    -rebar tie wire
    -spare fuses
    -some other tools

    behind the back seats
    -compressor
    -tire repair kit
    -valve repair kit
    -rain jacket and insulated jacket
    -wool blanket
    -bivvy sack
-bug spray+ sunscreen (removed in winter so they don't freeze)
    -contractor garbage bags
    -first aid kit

in the bed under the tonneau is my recovery bin as well with all the recovery gear. if its a lot of snow in the forecast I'll throw the recovery boards in just in case.

The thing is outside of the camping gear and fridge being put in when I go on the trails and camping the truck doesn't change. I keep all the same gear in there. I just dont carry my tent etc.

if you lived in the more rural country maybe a bug out bag is more useful. but in a city its not going to do you any good.
this idea of carrying water and food and all this survival gear is pointless when there's 100s of convenience stores or grocery stores around for stealing/buying water depending on how crazy things really have gotten. you can find food. you can find other shit. being able to think and find uses of what you have around you is going to do a lot more than all this prepping shit because you have a huge assortment of stuff you can find.

And thats also implying that if its civil unrest you aren't just killed or jumped before anything. Sure you can say you carry a gun for protection but if you're shot first or surprised and that gun or something is used on you guess what game over right at the start

if its a natural disaster same thing, you need to survive it first and if its that bad well driving is a write off. as those people i worked with said its basically where you are and what you have with you at that moment. You're not trying to get to a car or some shit you're hunkering down in the immediate area and hoping national guard or something can come help or you wait it out.

Some reason everyone thinks its going to be like the movies.

I agree, especially about those in cities trying to get out. I'm not some paranoid weirdo that thinks he's some big badass who needs all the EDC nonsense or a go bag, or a bunker in New Mexico. I just have a wheeling/exploring truck that is never unpacked and has everything to live out of it for quite a while and I live at the edge of a metro area. But it's like that whether or not the world comes to some cataclysmic end. I always crack up at all the BS people shove in their pockets to be prepared for their mundane day at work or out with the family haha.

    so true.
some of the facebook groups i'm in these EDC pocket dumps of 4 different knives and all these little pry bar tools and they work in a fucking office lol.

I mean really I dont need to carry any tools because I work construction i always have a shit load of tools with me. but i still have a knife and flashlight on me.

and its funny these bug out kits have so much gear to survive 3 days.
meanwhile there's guys that do bushcraft for the fun of it and will have four items and survive 3 days.

its one thing if you live in the middle of nowhere and if your truck breaks down you will have to hike back through some rough terrain over a few days.

but fuck I live in toronto. I often work no more than 30km from home. according to google i could walk to my current jobsite in 4 hours. So really if shit goes that bad I'll just take a few hours and walk home lol
