If you don’t like a product, don’t buy it. Manufacturers can “dictate” whatever they want. It’s their product, not yours. Feel free to not buy.

What you're a "fan" of and what the laws are can be very different things. Most people figure that out by about their mid 20's or so, but some are slower learners than others.

I could maybe understand it if the OP had actually bought the product new, it was within the warranty period, and the manufacturer was looking for a way out, but that's not even remotely the case. What OP is trying to do is pure fraud; no ifs/ands/buts around it.

In my world, deception and dishonesty aren’t “technicalities”. But hey, that’s just me. If you can justify falsified information as a mere technicality, good for you. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Im not sure what your point is... manufacturers are required to adhere to legal requirements, and thus factor in those costs to provide valid warranties. You seem to believe manufacturers should meet your personal warranty philosophy for free. Well, nothing is “free”... someone has to pay for it, and that “someone” in this example is the consumer... hence my reference to increase in product cost.

Sorry if my morals and values don’t fit with your life experience...

Companies will do what the market demands. If there were 10 companies making similar products they would all fall in line as to price point and warranty conditions. If one company gave an unconditional no questions asked warranty and charged a similar amount, the competitors would be forced to meet these conditions or loose sales. Don't know of many companies that make this product, so I guess it's "Caveat Emptor" Buyer beware.

    Pop and Lock.

The company that spends more on lawyers than tech staff.
If they don't want those nasty vendors selling their product, their lawyers can stop it. Remember about how Costco had to stop selling some brand names?
The instructions in the Tacoma labeled box that are for the Tundra.
The website instructions for the Tacoma that are for the Tundra.
Their legalese excluding warranty for merchantability/fitness of purpose. Even though their boxes state it's for a Tacoma.

I bought mine knowing they wouldn't stand behind it.

And if something goes wrong, I'm going to be doing what corrective work I can do.

And OP that's what you should be doing.

Since all you folks have “seen” pop-n-lock units for the Tacoma... are they still part plastic, part metal (base)? Or did they go all plastic? I’m trying to ID a unit.

What difference at all does where he bought it from mean in terms of quality? Are you saying something can go wrong because he bought it from someone else? That is pretty flawed logic. If the part failed, the part failed. The fact that he bought it from you or he bought it from Walmart is pretty irrelevant in terms of quality. It is pretty shitty that they won't stand behind their product and use a bogus out as their way of not having to stand behind their product.

Using your flawed logic he could have bought a device that was a return from Walmart, had a problem and because he had a piece of paper, they would have honored the warranty. Now you are saying because he doesn't have a Walmart receipt that he is wrong? What am I missing here?

i sell a broken doo-hickey to you for 20% of retail, because you say you only want to farm it for parts. you turn around and go to the manufacturer and say it's defective and you want a new one. do you see a problem with that?

Their warranty statement is pretty clear. Since it is a 1 year warranty they need proof of when the product was originally purchased, and then there is this in the statement. So with that, using a receipt from someone else would be considered fraud.

i am staying on topic. the entire point is OP want the manufacturer to take care of problem under warranty, but the manufacturer has no idea what state the product was in when purchased. a receipt proves it was new.

neither you, me, or pop-n-lock have any idea what OP is doing. he could have found it in the trash for all we know.

What you are missing with their "warranty" is that the T's and C's are not based on quality control, but marketing practices. This isn't an issue of them controlling quality, it is an attempt to control their distribution network. I'm assuming that if you are not in the business world that it might not make sense, but you do something like this because you can enforce a price not because you are concerned with someone getting over on a warranty claim.

Stay on topic. The OP wanted a reciept from someone else to get an item covered that is clearly not covered by their warranty policy.

OP, if you hear it working at all, it is probably fine and, as mentioned above, just needs some adjustment or lube. Solenoids rarely fail and when they do, they usually stop working altogether (open in winding). Good luck.

Why not just be honest and tell them you bought if off craigslist and it is not working. Tell them you know it is not covered. Ask if there is anyway they can help you troubleshoot it. Most likely they will provide some type of assistance with what to check first, second, etc. Be polite and respectful. Most legitimate companies will want to help you. Above all don't be a dink and they might provide replacement parts at a discount if that is necessary.
