Check out SCS Wheels they have an option in that size and offset. My steelies are -19mm offset but need a spacer to clear brakes, mine is a 10mm billet spacer

Can you help me understand the concept of wanting to use a narrow wheel and tire, but wanting it to sit wide? I'm not sure if I'm my logic is out of wack, but I've always assumed that guys who like to run tall and skinny prefer to not have a wide stance.

Ok, so a 255/80R17 is a stock width, but not a stock height. 235/85R17 is a common tire size, but much narrower than stock.

I like the narrow tires as they are quieter, lighter, and better in winter, however, I don't like the look of them when installed on stock wheels. It makes the truck look funny, like I'm rolling on spare tires or something. I compensate for that by running 1.5" spacers, because aside from US Wheel custom order, I can find reasonably priced 17x7.5 3.25" backspacing wheels.

People say "I don't need a wide track for the trails I run", but ultimately we're limited by the width of the truck. I think most people who run 235s or 255 Pizza Cutters just don't want the massively heavy rubber of a 285 tire.

Ideally, I'd like a wheel where I could run 255 or 235 tires and have them flush with the fenders, maybe a tad bit of "poke". Yes, that might require trimming or a lift, but I'm ok with that. I estimate that's a 8" wide wheel with 3.5" backspace. Thing is, 235 tires aren't ideal on a 8" wide wheel. Realistically, a 235 would comfortably fit on a 7.5" wheel, as would a 255 tire, but in order to get the same look, they need to be more like 3.25" backspacing. I highly doubt any aftermarket company is going to dabble in such a wierdo wheel size.

Basically, I wish that SCS made a 17x8 3.50" backspace wheel. I think the 8.5" wheel width leaves us 255/80R17 folks out.

All of SCS wheels in 17" only go to 8.5" wide. I want something narrower than that because I never plan to run anything bigger than 255.

Thank you for your feedback! It's always good to know what folks are thinking so I appreciate you taking the time to provide a detailed response.

This was my brothers old Tacoma with our 17x8.5 wheels and 255/80/17. Note that he took off his fender flares so with them on, there would been only a slight poke,

i think the main issue with the wider wheels with skinnies is you are more likely to roll a bead if aired down really low in the rough stuff. I think 8.5 is as wide as you can go on skinnys. I went with the TRD 17 Pro Sema because they are 7" wide and also have stick out about a 1/2 wider than stock 16" wheels which helps compensite for the look of the skinny tire. I think you would be fine running 8" wheel though.

Thanks! It was stock height rear in the first photo but Icon COs set at 1.5" up front. The last two photos are 2.5"/1.5"

I've seen a lot of people running 255/85R16 on stock wheels but I think the wider wheels with 0 offset would cause it to rub at stock height

Personally, I like the look of a narrow tire set wide because the truck looks slightly lower and more aggressive, and I also needed ample suspension clearance to fit my suspension parts and brakes behind the wheel. I have found that having the tires set slightly wider gives the truck increased stability through corners at the cost of slightly more tire wear and noise.

    Thanks for the backup, guys.

BTW I've got a Tundra, which requires more offset/backspace than a Tacoma in order to get the same look. Stock 1st Gen Tundra 17" alloys are +18mm offset vs +30 of 2nd Gen Taco, +25 of 3rd Gen Taco, and +10 of TRD Beadlocks. Those wheels look pretty good on a Tacoma, but a -20 offset on the Tundra doesn't look nearly as aggressive as a Tacoma with the same wheel.

For that reason, the only wheel that really interests me in the SCS lineup are the 3.5" backspaced Stealth6 and F5, but I'd want a 17x8 (or narrower).

I am a tire a wheel novice and would really appreciate your help. I have a 2017 Tacoma double cab SR5 4x4 with 245\75R16 tires and want to go to a taller tire and 17" wheels. Will a P255\75r17 on 17X8 with 25mm offset fit on my truck? Will I need a lift? Do I need a wheel with a different offset?

    Thanks,
    Robert

You get and rub or have to do anything trim ect. I’m running 5100 all corners 888 DK uca and icon 1.5 in rear. So roughly 2.5-2.75 front and 1.5 rear. Really like this look and that size rim is what I’m looking at.
