I just spent a while catching up on this thread. Hadn't looked since Monday. You guys post at about the same rate as I put rotations on my supercharger.

Here's an update for those interested.

    1. Still haven't blown up or cracked/thrown anything. Redundant water/methanol injection installed because why the heck not. Got up to 16psi when it was cold.
    2. Ran dyno again and saw only small gains after fixing belt slip... still aiming for that 400whp (on warm days). I'll get there.
    3. Having some belt slip still as per belt dust. I will be ordering Roush tensioner ASAP, still running stock... bank account says wait. No really, the cash in my wallet right now is the only way I can pay for anything until next payday.
    4. Having an intermittent rich condition on the PS bank only. DS bank AFR seems to be on target. Sometimes both banks will be the same, sometimes they'll be a whole integer different or more. Ideas for causes of this are welcome. I replaced the upper O2 sensor and relocated to the merge of the headers, plugs will go in tomorrow while I have the intake manifold off to do the rotor rear bearings and bypass valve adjustment, and put in a solid coupler.
    5. Replacing air filter today.

I posted in here awhile back asking about how snorkels work with the supercharger, as I purchased one of the Safari knockoff 1st gen snorkels on eBay (for $98, great deal...virtually identical to the ARB)

Anyhow, been running it for about a month now and it's 'effing awesome...no complaints at all. Haven't noticed any ill effects on the way the supercharger runs or performs, if anything it might be a tad healthier (cooler air from outside the wheel well I suppose). Was worried about air restriction but that doesn't seem to be an issue

Very nice. I saw dobinson’s new snorkel for the 2nd gen and am having a hard time resisting it. With no wheel well liners I have no choice really.

I'd say that proves what I've always believed, you can buy knockoff stuff on eBay if you're smart about it!

Most of us were skeptical when we saw it pop up on eBay at first, but a member on here bought both (the ARB and the eBay knockoff) and did a side-by-side comparison and they were virtually identical, and hugged the lines of the truck the same way. Normally I'd want to support a company like ARB with the reputation and quality they have, but at $400+ for some plastic and tubing versus $98...I couldn't justify that price difference lol.

So from what I have gathered, you have been a busy little bee! I will be as soon as i receive my parts next week. I can't wait to get it all.

I remember the member who did that. Turned out to be quite an interesting thread, I am glad to hear it is working out for you!

Post some pictures. I can't remember what you have on the way in the mail...

I has some work to do for sure. There's a fairly good list, still waiting for various parts. Working on maintenance and adjustment of my supercharger and a buddy's supercharger tomorrow.

I woke up at 4am and couldn't go back to sleep. So why not tinker with the truck a little, right? I've been considering switching back to the AFe Pro Dry air filter from the Volant/Donaldson Power Core. No traffic at 4am, so I decided it was a good opportunity to do some WOT datalogs to see what the differences were (if any) between the two filters. I did 3 runs with the Volant/Donaldson and 3 runs and took the best of both filters.

The AFe filter flowed 25 g/s more than the Volant/Donaldson. I'm sure the Volant/Donaldson probably filters out more particles or whatever. This isn't about that. For those of you who use your trucks in very dusty environments, you'll probably be better off going with the Volant/Donaldson Power Core.

    47*
    97% humidity

    Volant/Donaldson Power Core = 314 g/s
    AFe Pro Dry S =339 g/s

    339 g/s - 314 g/s = 25 g/s

    If the (MAF x 1.18 = Flywheel HP) calculation is to be believed, then 25 g/s x 1.18 = ~29.5 HP.

I did not reset the battery. I only drove 2 miles with the AFe installed before the WOT run, so the UCON has not had any real opportunity to adjust to the increased flow potential. IF there is some difference to be obtained from the UCON learning, then I could see it being a hair better after a couple days of driving. (IF)

I imagine there is more benefit to the increased flow other than just flow improvement. The supercharger doesn't have to work as hard to shove air into the engine. It can't push more air than it can obtain. The supercharger belt doesn't have to grip as hard. So in theory, less potential belt slip.

Yes, in the pic it says “filteration”.

That is actually why I stayed away from the Powercore. While filtration is important, if a company claims and states that it has fantastic near 100% filtration over X filter company the drawback and compromise to that filtration will ALWAYS be flow. You simply cannot have both high flow and high filtration rates at the same time.

Your test only further solidified that.

    Nice job Dwayne!

Good to see it finally tested! For me I will keep running the donaldson, the tiny performance hit is just something I will have to take. After seeing how many particulates get past my afe dry filter I don’t trust it.
Also curious when you slapped the afe in had you recently cleaned it or did it have some particulates in it?

I would like to see the difference between the afe proguard filter, and say the pro dry filter with a prefilter on it. Would be interesting to see the differences. Afe claims their proguard filters more than all their other filters but it needs to be oiled. I think it would be fine as long as you dont put too much oil.

The Volant is a good filter. The intent wasn’t to try and sway anyone one way or another. Just data points.

The filter I put on wasn’t cleaned or anything. It probably had maybe 10k miles on it. I thought I had thrown it away but recently found it and decided to test it. An estimated 30 peak horsepower is enough for the AFe filter win the spot in my engine bay. Pretty significant. I don’t routinely drive in super dusty conditions, so I think it’ll be fine for my use case.

SO finally got out and data logged this setup as listed. 354 grams/sec on the maf reading, so at the forum mandated 1.18 horse powers per gram....417 horse power? Kinda exactly where I thought I would be. Pretty nice. Really needs that shift kit.

I swap filters when going on multi-day off road trips that I know will be dusty. TRD filter for street use, paper filter for extreme dust off road. With my AFE I plan on doing the same thing.

P0103 code is my issue as well. Confirmed that last night with @crashnburn80 using his scanner. Promptly got the code again on freeway onramp home. 33* low humidity, 10.6 lbs boost.:woot:now how to solve the urd intake woes.

Sounds about right. What were the ambient conditions? Temperature and humidity.

I understand, it is some very interesting data and I mean if they claim more filtration it makes total sense to kill some HP. Sadly I have not much of a choice honestly. I live on a dirt road, work in the dirt, and play in the dirt lol. On the other filters I think it would be interesting to see the hp differences other than what afe states, because I think they may pump their numbers up a bit. But I have thought of running the dry filter with the pre cleaner, or even the proguard filter just on the street. I just wonder if at that point if the hp differences are as big, because no doubt in my mind even the precleaner has to take some airflow away.
