Okay so I understand tsbs and what they are but everyone and there grandmother on the dam forum keep saying oh yea I had the dealership perform the tsb. I’m at the dealership now and they say you can’t request a specific number tsb you have to complain about what’s wrong and if the tsb applies to it then they will apply it. I’m here now waiting hoping they apply this tsb and can drive this truck away with no fucked up tranny.

Look up what the TSB says it fixes. Complain to the service manager that your truck is doing whatever it is the TSB you want says it fixes.

I went in and basically complained word for word what the TSB said and mentioned that I had been made aware of the TSB online and it sounded just like my problem.

A TSB is a fix for a problem, not service you can demand be done like an oil change or tire rotation. You can complain about an issue the TSB addresses that is no guarantee of it getting done. Most times the dealership has to verify the complaint / problem before authorizing the work being done but a few may just take your word for it.

They are giving you an opportunity here. They could have just told you we cant do that, but they have informed you to complain about what's wrong. So, complain about whats wrong and they will fix you up. The more time you waste here is more time they are going to dismiss you and you will get nothing done.

Print out the tsb and take it with you. Say you’re having trouble with a certain thing and you found this that fixes it

Yeah they will love that. you telling them how to fix the truck.

OP do as other have mentioned. Complain about the tranny shift issue and describe it exactly as the tsb reads. The tech will take it for a ride, confirm the complain then check for tsb's relating to the symptoms and your complaint.

I love when I see that people are all up to date on their TSB's. These forums multiply stupidity very quickly.

Everything above here is ancillary to the real problem. You simply need to yell louder.

Just had the tranny TSB done. Took it with me, made the complaint. Service guy looked it up, and said "we'll take care of it".

Done and Done. Truck works great.

Why didn't you walk in and just say your tranny is fucked up! Is there a fix for it?
Or did you walk in and say I want a TSB because the internet says I need it!:D

when I brought my 2018 in I told them I had issues addressed in the TSB copy I showed them. I said it was intermittent and might not show up on a test drive. The service agent looked at me a little cross-eyed like he was going to challenge that. I just said "hey, it's a software up date not a transmission rebuild, just do it and lets move on" So it was done.

A lot can go wrong and a lot of bad can happen when doing a tsb, so I understand why TOYOTA and its dealer network usually exercise caution.
If you do have the issue, by all means get it done. you paid a lot for the performance a new vehicle ought to have.

For the record, I haven't had any tsb done

What do you mean? What bad things can happen? Is it really substantially different from updating the OS on a phone?

Tsb doesn’t always mean firmware update. It’s a prepriscribed fix from Toyota for a specific set of problems. It might be a tsb to replace door trim, or to tighten driveshaft bolts. I contest that if a tsb reflashing bricks your ecu then there was something wrong with your truck to begin with.
