Comprehensive overview of the Gen 3 differences and packages question.

Close to pulling the trigger on this 2018 TRD sport long bed can someone help me understand the major differences between the TRD off-road and some of the packages I should be considering I noticed this sport does not have the locker. What about audio? Thanks in advance.

 

Major difference in Sport and Off-Road is the crawl control and locker on the Off-Road that the Sport won't have.
Sport get aesthetic changes like the skewp and color matched flares and bumpers

As for the technology...they are packaged similarly...base gets Entune with Nav...Tech gets heated seats and a JBL stereo option, etc, etc. There's more to it, but that's the start.

 

Thanks MC. I’m kinda bummed the sport doesn’t have the rear locker or crawl control but do prefer the color keyed bumpers, flares, door handles, etc. not sure what to think of the hood scoop yet...if I have the JBL audio package, how can one tell? I see no JBL badging anywhere.

 

I think the JBL package has a subwoofer behind the seat. Don’t take my word for it, but Google should give you an idea.

You can always add a locker, especially since that truck is on 35”s and likely stock gearing. Depending upon your local terrain you’ll find the driveability lacking. And crawl control can be accomplished via technique.

 

Most people like to upgrade the speakers and jbl makes it harder than non jbl if you dont see it on the head unit, you dont have it

 

When I was shopping for a Pro, I decided I wanted a MT for 2 reasons, first I didn't want an auto, and Second, I didn't want JBL because of the limited upgrades, but wanted everything else the Pro offered.

I would be careful buying a lifted truck honestly... is it the lift you want? Did they know what they were doing when they lifted it? Lots to think about on that.

 

Too bad you can’t order each option separate to get exactly what you want. Marketing forces everyone to get packaging with stuff you might not care for. Wheels, Rear Locker,
Hood, etc. should be options on different
models.

 

Ive upgraded so much, the only thing im missing is the leather seats. And agree with the lift...most dealers overprice thier spacer lifts, and alot of others dont put in the right combos

 

Go to Toyota's web site and "build" a truck. Start with the base model you are looking at and as you go along take note of the various packages, what they include, what they replace and the cost.

 

I wish i got heated seats...there isnt really any simple aftermarket or quick fix easy solution

I’d test drive that truck extensively. If it hasn’t been regeared, those big boots and that lift are going to affect what is already a languid driving experience. Make sure you are buying it for more than the stance.
