Super small update, added some trim to the roof, hand for tired of holding up the edge while messing with random stuff / testing out closing the roof from the outside

 

When riveting the panels or sheets of aluminum, is there caulking in between sheets to help with water proofing?

 

There is mastic tape for a lot of the major components where they interact.

Also the rivets are “waterproof” ie sealed ended rivets. I have had no leaks except for my bed of the truck (not campers fault)

When installing the canvas, did you just sandwich it in between the aluminum and rivet it? This is where i am confused on how to install the bottom portion of the canvas. Worried about water leaking into the bottom

Lots of caulking and double sided tape seal the sides up to the frame.

You got it. it is just a sandwich. I wouldn't worry about water coming in as the canvas forms its own seal due to the rubberized texture. You building your own rig?

Pretty cool set-up. The OVRLND website lists a base weight of 300-350 lbs. I'm guessing this build gets close to 500-600 lbs which is respectable and very manageable for a mini-truck. Are you going to finish the walls with anything over the insulation?

 

Currently I have abs / velcro fabric on all of the walls, I will be adding a “headliner” to it in the next couple of days (depending on work). I have a couple of fabrics picked out, but looks like loose loop felt will probably be the option I go with.

And once the interior storage / kitchen / fridge are in it should be about 5-600 extra weight.

Also semi soon I will be starting on the interior and roof rack storage for wood. Waiting on materials and a coworker with some fancy tools to let me work while he wrenches on his samurai

 

After dropping the top back down is there much “tucking” of tent material to get the top latched? would it be possible to get a better video of opening and fully closing the top?

 

Spent some time today working on a headliner. Think it turned out well, not done yet. Learned a lot

 

Messing around this weekend, decided to reimagine the side doors. They were a little tall for the wife to use, so figured I could do something to lower them.

Let the interior begin

 

Looking good! I got my Ovrlnd camper a couple weeks ago and I've been using your build thread for inspiration as I build mine out. Today I installed foam insulation in the walls and it couldnt have been simpler. Looking for ideas on what to use for the interior paneling. Debating between hdpe sheet (more expensive) or corrugated plastic (cheaper).

 

Another option is frp panels from Home Depot. I probably should have gone that route. They are cheaper than hdpe/abs but nicer than corrugated.

If your going to cover your ceiling with fabric I have some pointers for you. So pm with any super specific questions

 

Thanks! I have not heard of the frp panels but will definitely look into them. I had read about van builders using corrugated plastic covered with fabric for a headliner so thats how i got the idea of using them for the walls... I'll probably have some questions for you when i get to the headliner.
