How strongly do you apply your parking brake?

    Just curious. I always park on even, level ground and never feel the need to pull the parking brake up more than a few clicks until it just begins to feel snug. I notice though that any time I leave the truck with someone like a local shop or the Toyota dealer like this weekend, they yank it like we are on the hills of San Francisco or something. Then of course, adjusting the parking brake needs to be done at certain scheduled service intervals. Gee, I wonder why. Not that it's really a big deal to me, I just find it a bit curious.

    Not to hijack you - I reported to service that my emergency brake grabbed too much. They told me it was normal. The reason I reported it was because when I tested it for an emergency situation, it immediately locked up the rear. It didn't matter how slow I was rolling or how slowly I applied the brake. Locked up every time. Does everyone have the same results ?

    I find one click is enough to hold the truck stationary on gentle inclines in neutral, and also enough to hold the truck stationary while in drive on level ground. As such, I've found that 2 clicks are more than enough for setting the parking brake.

    You can get the truck to move with the parking brake fully set in 4lo though. Don't ask me how I know. :facepalm:

    1-2 clicks seems to be plenty for slight inclines, but I always leave in gear too.

    Mine grabs the same way when the truck is just barely rolling, especially after sitting overnight.
    If a few clicks can lock the tires up when the truck rolling at 10mph, you've got a problem.

    2 to 3 clicks will hold pretty damn well.

    I agree, the parking brake would be useless and dangerous in case of brake failure. I've tried as gently as possible, and it goes from nothing to full on rear wheel lock instantly...even at like 20mph around town. Good thing brake failures are nonexistent these days.

    I find it easier to drift if you hold the button down the whole time and vary the pressure

    Ahhright... my question is does the parking break use a traditional cable to pull the brake shoes? Moreover, what on the truck is now electronic as opposed to a cable or vacuum actuated? I already know there is no throttle linkage or cable... anything else?
