The Frame. The single biggest point of failure on these trucks. From the reflection of your license plate, it’s from Connecticut which is part of the Rust Belt.

 

Few things I did last weekend and this weekend.
Rear diff breather
Front and rear bumps
Grey wire mod
Ran a speaker to my CB so I can hear it better lol

 

I looked at one in New Hampshire. It was rough. Check it out...

This one (edit— meaning my truck, not the one I didn’t purchase pictured here) is solid though.

I’d like to take steps to keep it that way and/or find any hidden issues early.

 

Ouch. I’d fluid film your frame every season.

I'd start by removing the loose flaking rust first then fluid film it both INSIDE and OUT

 

Put some bigger ears on the truck today.





Found a good place to mount a flash light with some Quick Fists.



And finally was able to fix the passenger seat so the slider works one handed again.





Yup, I've got some brake lines to install along with a new clutch line as well. Maybe tomorrow.

 

No that’s not a photo my truck. That’s the photo of one I did NOT buy. Sorry for not being more clear.

Mine is still a Northeast truck but has black shiny paint on the frame. Some rust starting on the shackles and springs, but good condition for 151k miles in the Northeast. A little rough edge starting on the inside of the box section of the frame. I wish it looked as clean as your California rigs, but then I’d be priced out of having such a cool toy.

My ‘89 Ford Econoline Sportsmobile has flaking surface rust but is nothing like the photo.

 

My dumbass friend broke my JDM 4Runner Inclinometer by messing with the adjustment knob, so I took it out to repair. The little Nylon adjustment gear that adjusts the Side-to-Side gauge broke off, so I had to re-attach it with some superglue.

Very fascinating mechanisms.

 

Is that why my seats don't slide forward anymore when you pull the lever? Been wondering what happened.

 

Possibly. The broken wire was still there when I got my truck and I finally got around to ordering the replacement wire. Tried making my own version but nothing I tried really worked so I finally broke down for the real deal.

 

If you're going to do brake work, and you plan on doing any off road, mountain driving, or towing... Just rip the band aid off now, and do Tundra brakes.

 

Square cup holders just claimed another cup of coffee, damn it.

 

Coozie cup holder mod:
Get foam coozie cut it down to size and put some double sided tape on the bottom.Done holds drinks good,no more spills.costnothing if you have a coozie you got for free.

 

Is this a direct replacement or...

I just did mine- hickups were:
- needed spacers for my steelies (non OEM)
- needed the shorter tundra caliper bolts
- already have goodridge SS brake lines, if not I imagine I would have had to mod the OEM banjo like many threads point out.
- oh yeah, and trim the dust shield.

This mod is amazing, a must do.

Added a second OEM fold-up platform/cup holder thing in the back of my extended cab so the pup can be more comfortable back there. Not many know this but there are threaded holes ready to go on the driver side. You will need to modify the platform by swapping the legs. Do this on a workbench using vise-grip pliers to compress the spring loaded legs. Now all you have to do is cut 2 slits in your carpet where the bolt holes are (feel for them inside your storage compartment), and attach the platform. Best 10 minute mod I've done yet! I just need to find another platform for my other Tacoma.
