Yesterday I forget who was asking about my fender flares, I got them off a site on EBAY for $99.94. Quality Assurance was the name of the company.

So I'm having CB radio problems. I have a 3' FireStik mounted to a hood hinge mount on the driver side. My radio is mounted by my right leg along the front driver side of the center console via velcro. The cap on my FireStik came off causing the top to get rusty and corroded. When I borrowed a SWR meter I found that channel 1 and 40 can't be adjusted to anything under around 3.5 or 4.

Sooo... what are my options? Can I go with a taller FireStik? Or would it be better to move my antenna? I'd kinda like to have it mounted at the rear of the bed but I have a hard shell topper and not quite sure how I'd mount it back there and prevent it from bouncing against the shell. The thought of having to run a new antenna cable doesn't appeal to me either, but if it would be the best solution, I'd do it.

Anyone have some advice? My knowledge of CBs and antennas is minimal.

Just replace the antenna being corroded is why the SWR will not adjust.

Are you forever hitting limbs with the antenna ??

If you want to go taller go for it .Move to the rear put pipe insulation on the antenna to protect the cap

I had thought most had gone to FM away from CB .

I have not paid attention to Sun Spot activity that messes with the CB frequencies in a big way

I'll start with simply replacing the antenna. Yes, the antenna often hits limbs when on trails. But I don't often drive trails. Mostly commuting and driving long distances. Which is also why CB seems to be fine. I can listen to truck traffic on long trips and talk to others when off-roading. I have yet to find a reason to change to a different type of comms.

I would keep an eye on how things are working getting the top smacked is not good.

I had no idea I thought your use was just off Road use.

My plan is to miter in another piece of 2x4 at the rear of the crossmember that Jon built a couple of years ago. The frame will end where the rear of the crossmember is now.

I’m going to sink the 2” receiver into the new piece of 2x4, spit that horizontal cross brace in the crossmember, and weld the hitch right through it.

The new shackle mounts will go on the new piece of 2x4 as well.

I’m also going to go back and fully weld in the frame box plates. They’re stiched in right now.

I like the set of Wet Okoles that I bought used off of here. However, they are not easy on/easy off. And as comfortable as they are, they tend to give you swamp ass due to the neoprene material.
