Holy crap, I hope insurance covers that, for the car and the house both!

Yeah we're all thankful that they were inside and not outside. It happened right about the time they could have been leaving the house. The beams are resting on the side of the roof of the cruiser but it really looks like it survived it somehow.

That only operates as part of the A/C. Need to check your furnice in the attic/crawl space.

I just had to replace my systems a few months ago.

That happened to mine and it was a starter capacitor. At your own risk turn unit on and get something like stick and see if the fan will turn. Remember it may quickly turn the fan on so don't put your fingers or leave the stick in your fan blade. If it runs after that its probably the start capacitor. Just so you know I am only a you tube HVAC tech. Only for using AC.

I'm really hoping to avoid that, especially right at Christmas.

I read that on the interwebs. Was going to try it after the unit sits for a little while longer.

That's the condensor fan. It could've crapped out or it could just be the capacitor. There's also a contactor that could be bad.

If the A/C is not operational- could be as simple as the capacitor. That is only a 20 minute fix- that they charge you for, lol.

unless somehow connected for HEATING- you may need to check the furnice. For COOLING- the A\C works in tandum with the blower in the furnice to move the cold air.

I just had to replace both my A/C units and one of my furnice units in August.

Hope its an easier solution!

YEs. Looks like the same unit as mine. Capacitor went bad a few years ago and I think last year the contactor went bad. It gets all corroded inside.
Edit: like someone said though. Thats the air con, not the heat pump.

Thanks, Jonathon. Luckily with my energy rate we can run space heaters as long as needed and the only thing it will hurt is Duke Energy's feelings.

Yeah, I have no idea where the heating unit is. That should be an adventure.

Yeah that's bad. Thankfully the way it looks like it's structured to the house it won't be uber hard to fix and no major issues to the house. The roof joists were probably too small for the span and spacing for those loads. Was that a flat roof also?

Y'all that's a heat pump. It's does both and that fan has to run. The air handler, evaporator and blower are separate. A heat pump is an AC that runs in reverse mode to heat. It "cools" the outside air to use the heat for inside.
